On the night of stripped-down saints and human dignity beyond desire
Introduction
Sexual desire itself is not evil. Every human being is a creature that wishes to touch, embrace, and confirm their connection with the person they love. However, the folly of covering that desire with a mask of “kindness” or “sincerity,” only to treat the other person carelessly the moment the goal is achieved, is rampant. From the perspective of a 58-year-old on the front lines, this work depicts human dignity beyond desire and the exchange of hearts through the body, with both cold clarity and warmth.

The night of saints wearing masks
A street at night where rain wets the pavement. The light from streetlamps reflects off the wet asphalt, tracing dull, golden trajectories.
A booth at a family restaurant at two in the morning. A man toys with a cup from the cold drink bar with his fingertips. The woman sitting across from him stares at the rain outside with slightly tired eyes. The words that slip from the man's mouth are endlessly smooth and endlessly gentle. I'm worried about you. That must have been hard. I'm the only one on your side. You don't have to push yourself.
The resonance of a "sympathizer" is scattered throughout his words. However, his gaze wanders somewhere, lingering for just a moment on the woman's neck or fingertips before quickly darting away. His Adam's apple bobs slightly. His fingertips tap an irregular rhythm on the table. His hand is clenched so tightly that his fingernails dig into the wood grain.
That kindness is not selfless love. It is calculated patience, waiting for weakened prey to get caught in a web of its own accord.
The woman knows this. She senses not the weight of his words, but the heat of the ulterior motives behind them. Whether the other person is looking at her as a human being, or merely as a "gateway to desire." Everything is transparent through the trembling of his fingertips or the way his gaze wanders.
Seeking sex itself is not bad at all. A man wishing for a woman's body. A woman desiring to touch the warmth of a man's skin. There is a fundamental thirst there as living creatures. The impulse to seek the warmth of mucous membranes and fill the void of loneliness. That is by no means dirty. It is an honest testament to life, possessed by the imperfect beings we call humans.
And yet, why do men in this world so desperately want to hide their desires under the robes of saints?
"Because I want to cherish you."
The hand extended while saying that. What that hand wants is not the other person's heart, but merely release. It is the cowardice of someone who lacks the courage to bare their desires, trying to snatch the best parts while maintaining the safe position of a "good person."
What the woman feels disgust for is not the sexual desire itself. It is the calculation of hiding that desire inside a costume of "goodwill," waiting for the other person to show an opening. Kindness waiting to be collected. A fake kindness based on the premise of having it returned later with interest.
If you have desire, you should say you have desire. If you are thirsty, you should shout for water. Instead, they approach with the face of "I'll brew you some delicious tea," and trample into the other person's sanctuary with muddy boots.
The man's shallow wisdom. The woman's cold gaze.
The farce unfolding in the late-night restaurant is both ridiculous and painful. The mask of kindness that hides one's true intentions tears away as easily as wet paper.
Tangible Desire and the Cleanliness of Lies
“We are connected only by our hearts.”
There is a chilling, phony quality that drifts from the faces of couples who say this with pride. A relationship that claims to be built solely on spiritual heights, cleanly severing the body away. An attempt to lock love inside a box that is far too clean.
Love is not made of such pristine things alone.
Body heat. The scent of sweat. The sound of breathing. Disheveled hair. The sensation of fingernails digging into a back. A carnal communion that is earthy, raw, and impossible to divide by logic. To exclude that and try to decorate it only with “sincerity” is proof that one is running away from their own living, breathing desires.
Eyes meet. A few seconds of stillness. Words trail off.
The tone of a voice drops a semitone, and the distance closes. A position where the other’s breath brushes against your cheek. The smartphone screen showing that the last train is approaching. Fingers that confirm this, yet push the phone back into a pocket. Even though there are plenty of reasons to go home, your feet won’t move. Hands touch. First pretending it was an accident, then surely, as if to confirm each other’s body heat.
Stories always begin in such raw places.
There is no need to fear desire. Wanting to touch the person you love. Wanting to hold them. Wanting to confirm them. That intense impulse is the very magnet that draws people together. To deny that as “unclean” is a blasphemy against the existence of humanity itself.
The problem does not lie in desire itself.
It is using the other person’s feelings as a stepping stone to justify yourself for harboring that desire. It is the craftiness of turning your own urges into a beautiful story and casting the other person as a convenient heroine.
The phoniness of the words “It’s not just about sex.” The hollowness of saying “I was drawn to your heart.” The smallness of a man who believes he cannot hold someone unless he says such things.
A woman knows full well that a man has sexual desire. As a living creature, she knows that a man wants her. That is precisely why, when he puts on the face of a “saint” to hide it, she loses interest. More than losing interest, she is disappointed to be forced to play along with such shallow acting.
He should just be honest about wanting her. He should just say with his eyes that he wants her body right now. To acknowledge the thirst of the flesh while still showing respect for the other person as an individual. Because he cannot do that, the conversation goes wrong.
A relationship painted over with pretty words crumbles easily with a single friction. Only those who face their raw desires and have the resolve to swallow the mud can reach true warmth.
The True Nature That Dwells in the Silence After It Ends

The act ends, and silence visits the room.
The light of a streetlamp shining through a gap in the curtains. A man at the edge of the bed, back turned, scrolling through his smartphone screen. The pale blue light illuminates his expressionless face. Where did the frenzy, the whispers, and the excessive kindness from just moments ago disappear to?
Warmth that has dissipated like smoke.
The woman pulls the sheet up to her chest and stares at a single point on the ceiling. Even when she tries to speak, the man's aura of rejection blocks her. His replies are suddenly curt. Short words like, "I'm tired, so I'm going to sleep." An attitude that treats her feelings and the lingering atmosphere as nuisances.
Whenever she tries to touch upon the future of their relationship, he immediately runs away, saying, "That kind of talk is too heavy."
In this moment, everything becomes clear.
That she was not loved as a human being, but merely used as an outlet for desire. That what the other person wanted was not "me" as a person, but merely "some kind of release" through my existence.
A pain as if her body were being torn apart. The sensation of the depths of her chest growing cold. Her back teeth clenched, her fists gripped so tight her nails dug into her palms. A cold, clear realization so profound that she cannot even shed a tear.
Ah, it wasn't me after all.
Being desired physically does not hurt in itself. In fact, being desired by someone you love is a happy thing. However, the moment one realizes they were seen only for their body, their dignity is shattered. The moment one realizes they were treated as a disposable tool, a deep wound is carved into their heart.
The excessive sincerity shown only before getting what they want. The veneer that peels away the moment the goal is achieved.
Being kind only when you want something is not kindness. Treating someone well only before you have them cannot be called cherishing them. If the affection disappears once it is over, it was never love to begin with, but merely an act of consumption.
The man's convenient selfishness. The woman's wounds and disappointment.
It is in one's behavior after it is over that a person's true character is revealed. In the cold air after the heat has faded, how much can you cherish the other person as a human being? Only there does true sincerity reside.
The value of a human being seen beyond the act of intimacy
There are nights when people become intimate on impulse. There are relationships that begin with both parties carrying loneliness, swept away by the influence of alcohol or the atmosphere.
There is no need to deny love that begins with sex. There is affection that only sprouts through physical connection. What began as a mere physical bond can sometimes grow into a genuine connection over time. That is an interesting and endearing aspect of human beings.
However, just because you have touched someone's body does not give you the right to treat their heart carelessly.
Too many people misunderstand this. The foolishness of hallucinating that because you have been allowed to be intimate once, they have become your property. Rough communication, neglectful treatment, summoning them while ignoring their circumstances. The tyranny of trying to continue only the physical relationship while leaving the other person's heart behind.
No matter how close bodies may become, the other person is a human being different from yourself. They have a heart, circumstances, and feelings that can be hurt. There is no reason anywhere that justifies violating that dignity.
It is by no means evil for a man to have sexual desire. There is no need to be ashamed of it, nor to hide it.
However, if you have desire, as a human being with desire, at the very least, do not strip the other person of their dignity. Treat them as a human being, with the same care both before and after. That is the minimum code of honor a mature man should uphold.
Desiring is not a sin. But, after desiring, to be unable to cherish the other person as a human being—that is, above all else, cheap and base.

【Seo's 'It's not evil to desire a body. What's cheap is failing to treat someone as a human being after you've desired them.' The Crux】
Men in this world are unaware of the cheapness of their own desires.
They are desperate only to satisfy their lust, and once finished, they discard the other person like trash. They do not realize how much such behavior devalues their own worth. Women are not looking at a man's physique or his money. They are looking at the 'human caliber' that resides in how he handles his desires and in the nuances of the attitude that remains afterward.
Do not become something cheap.
If you harbor desire, have the resolve to carry that desire. Have the spirit to accept not just the other person's body, but the life and heart that lie behind it. If you cannot do that, do not put on a kind face from the start.
Cast off the mask of a saint and face the other person as a flawed, earthy human being. Even after seeking a body and being satisfied, possess hands that can still lovingly stroke the other person's hair.
While standing on the theory of human nature as inherently evil, do not let go of human dignity at the final moment. That is the only sincerity for living in this unreasonable and imperfect world.

Composition and Layout
Draw a glass window of a cafe in the middle of the night, slightly off-center. It is raining outside, and the light from streetlamps is complexly reflected and scattered by raindrops. Through the window, the silhouettes of a man and a woman sitting facing each other. There are cups with rising steam in front of them, but they maintain an exquisite distance where their hands almost touch but do not. Their gazes do not meet; the man is looking down, and the woman is staring at the rain outside.
Color and Tone
The overall tone is deep midnight blue and rich amber. While exuding silence and loneliness, it uses the contrast of warm colors to make one feel the warmth of human skin.
Texture and Detail
The realistic texture of raindrops on glass, the blurring of neon lights reflected on wet asphalt. The text (title) is in a slender Mincho font, with a slight transparency applied to the white font, placed so that it blends into the shadows of the screen.
