🛡️ Will You Trade Freedom for Safety? 👁️ The Ultimate Litmus Test Posed by America's "KOSA" 🇺🇸⛓️
Which do you choose: "safety" or "freedom"? 🤔
Hey, it's me.
Listen, what would you do if you were told this? "We will protect your children perfectly from theharmful informationswirling on the internet. In exchange, we (the government) get therightto decide what is harmful."
Safety or freedom?
It sounds like a question from a sci-fi movie, but this isreality. Right now, in America, this veryultimate litmus testis being thrust upon us in the form ofthe "KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act)".This is the beginning of a massivetectonic shiftthat concerns the future of us all.

[Chapter 1] What is KOSA? The Blade Held to Meta's Throat
First, let's be clear. KOSA isn't some state-level game like in Florida. It is aserious revolutionthat theU.S. Congress(the equivalent of Japan's National Diet) is pushing forward with bipartisan (meaning regardless of friend or foe) support.
The blade is aimed at monsters likeMeta (Instagram) and TikTok. Their (the government's) stated goal is to "protect children from harmful content on the internet (such as suicide promotion, eating disorders, sexual exploitation, bullying, etc.)."A truly noble cause, isn't it? How moving.
[Chapter 2] The Essence of the Revolution: The End of "Self-Responsibility" and the Beginning of "Corporate Responsibility"
But the real danger of KOSA isn't there. It is a drastic remedy that ends the era of self-responsibility—the very concept I've explained extensively in my previous articles—where "it's your fault for not reading the terms of service."
KOSA legally mandates a "Duty of Care" on them (corporations). It attempts to condemn the design itself, saying, "Don't even create addictive algorithms that trap vulnerable beings like children into a state of mindless passivity."
Consent without reading is no longer the issue. Whether there is consent or not, it aims to overhaul the very design philosophy, demanding that no harmful products be created. This is the final form of "vulnerability inclusion" that I wrote about in my previous article on the Specified Commercial Transactions Act.
[Chapter 3] The Flames of War Spread Globally: The Front Line of the UK
And don't get it twisted. This tectonic shift isn't just an American party. Look at the UK. They are one step ahead of KOSA.
In 2023, they actually managed to pass a law called the "Online Safety Act."
The essence of this is the same. It's a "Duty of Care." It legally forces Meta and TikTok to "not show children harmful content (suicide promotion, eating disorders, etc.). You must take proper preventive measures." What happens if they disobey? It's an outrageous fine of "10% of global revenue."
But, the darkness in the UK runs even deeper.... Under the pretext of "protecting children," they (the government) even tried to destroy the secrecy of communications. They threatened E2EE (end-to-end encryption) apps like Signal and WhatsApp, demanding they "create a backdoor and let us censor the content." ...How about that? Both America and the UK are trying to chain our own freedom to bind the monster. This battle has already begun all over the world.
[Chapter 4] Light and Shadow: What We Give Up and What We Gain
This revolution, naturally, has both benefits and side effects.
What we gain (the light):
If this bill (KOSA) passes, Meta and TikTok will be forced to stop harmful algorithms that destroy children's mental health. It will become difficult to use "dark patterns" to prey on children, or to induce mindless passivity and addiction. Without a doubt, many children will be saved. This is justice.
What you're giving up (the dark side):
But theprice is incredibly high. It's the birth of a monster calledcensorship.
The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and other groups that are supposed to protect human rights are telling this "KOSA" to "hold on!" and arevehemently opposing it.
Why? They are shouting,"Who on earth gets to decide what is harmful and how?"
What if the government decides that "information about LGBTQ+ is harmful"? What if the government starts saying "information criticizing the administration is harmful"? This could be the start of theworst kind of speech control under the guise of safety. Could our freedom be sacrificed for thepretty-sounding lie of protecting children?
[Today's Lesson] Stopping your thinking is the worst possible answer.
Listen, remember this. Thislitmus test isn't just about America or the UK. Japan cannot remain unaffected by thistectonic shift.Safety or freedom?
Do you think,"It's okay to give up freedom for the sake of safety"? Or will you keep singing the old song of personal responsibility, saying,"If it's for the sake of freedom, it can't be helped if the weak are sacrificed"?
Whichever future you choose, the most dangerous thing is to look away from this ultimate question andstop thinking, assuming "someone else will handle it well."
This "KOSA" is a potent drug that goes beyond the lukewarm level of "Have you read the terms of service?" and is forcibly compelling each and every one of us to provide an answer as astakeholder.
This article is a trigger for you to break free from stopping your thinking. Decide for yourself how you will act in the end. You can't erase the past. But you can decide for yourself how to live tomorrow. See ya 👋
