Sad Café ── Things I Couldn't Say That Rainy Night
Hello everyone.
It's already the middle of July. There are days when the rain just keeps falling, aren't there?
On a humid night, I find myself stopping by a café, gazing blankly out the window,
remembering so many things.
I feel like that kind of time suits this season.
This time, the song is themed around such a night.
■ About this song
A night at a café where the scent of parting lingers.
The sweetness of the milk left at the bottom of a cold coffee. The rain outside the window.
Your profile looks just a little bit distant.
The things I couldn't say are slowly unraveling in my chest.
I don't have to decide about the way home just yet.
But—time is quietly carrying my feelings away.
There's still time.
Move those feelings that have been standing still, right now.
Even if this turns out to be the last night, that café will remember.
So come back once more. This time, I want to tell you properly.
■ Sound Image
A bouncy rhythm, a slightly funky groove.
Even though the lyrics are bittersweet, it's danceable, and before you know it, your body is swaying.
Even though it's a story about a café on a rainy night, it makes you want to drive through the city at night.
Sweet vocals gently lead the melody.
The interplay of the chorus, clinging to the words "Come to the Sad Café,"
gains a little more heat each time it repeats.
It's a bit different from City Pop or AOR; it has the vibe of 80s City Funk.
I'd be happy if it captured that image.
▼ Lyrics
Rain outside the window, shadows falling on the glass
Things I couldn't say are unraveling in my chest
Your profile is just a little bit wet
I felt like I could still make it, even three seconds from now
Come to the Sad Café
Tell me the feelings that are fading away
Come to the Sad Café
Hey, say it here
So they don't disappear
At the bottom of the cold milk, only the sweetness remains
The silence between us is strangely gentle
I don't have to decide about the way home just yet
Because just those words change the night
Hey, don't run away again when we're this close
Move those feelings that have been standing still, right now
Come to the Sad Café
Tell me the feelings that are fading away
Come to the Sad Café
Hey, say it here
So they don't disappear
Even if tomorrow is different, this seat will remember
The scent of the coffee and the nameless pain
If I can drink it all down
■ About the band Sad Café
When you hear "Sad Café," many people might think of the Eagles' classic song first. But the inspiration for the title this time is the UK band "Sad Café".
Hailing from Manchester, Sad Café was a London Pop/AOR band active from the late 1970s. "Everyday Hurts" reached number 3 on the UK charts. They are a band known to those in the know, with hits like "My Oh My," "Strange Little Girl," and "Black Rose."

What I love about this band is that the lead guitar going wild over the pop songs is just the best.
The sound is neatly polished, but the guitar feels like it's spilling over the edges. It's like the Isley Brothers' guitar playing all over a British soul track. I've loved that imbalance since back then.
I am truly happy that they are still active and doing their best today.
This song is a secret homage to them.
