SUPER JUNKY MONKEY - Days Spent with My Favorite Band, Episode 2

I went to O-East to see the one-night-only reunion concert of SWITCH STYLE, who were performing at 'REBIRTH OF HARDCORE PRIDE,' an event headlined by GORILLA BISCUITS, who had come to Japan for the first time with the recording members of their 1989 NY hardcore masterpiece 'START TODAY'.

At the venue, I ran into Yukio Kobayashi of 3rd Stone From The Sun.
3rd Stone, represented by Mr. Kobayashi, was the agency for SUPER JUNKY MONKEY, and SWITCH STYLE, where Yusaku Maezawa played drums, had also been signed there.

The first thing Mr. Kobayashi said was, 'We're holding an event next June!' I wasn't surprised. If he hadn't said that, I would have asked him, 'Aren't you going to do one?'
I had believed all along that everyone would gather in 2009, the 10th year.

Every year, around February 5th (Mutsumi-chan's memorial day), I listen to nothing but SUPER JUNKY MONKEY.
Remembering the days I spent with them. Waiting for the day we can all meet again.

'SUPER JUNKY MONKEY presents "Songs Are Our Universe"'

The best possible combination, with The Jasons and WRENCH, was realized.

There were many familiar faces at the front of the floor. And when the three of them finally appeared, my tear ducts loosened.
KEIKO-chan was mainly on vocals. Shinobu-chan sang too, and Tsu!! (Matsuda!!)-chan did a little as well.

The sound the three of them produced was so tight, you wouldn't have thought it had been 10 years.
I reaffirmed that this band is, was, and always will be number one for me.

September 20, 2009
Exactly three months after 'SUPER JUNKY MONKEY presents "Songs Are Our Universe".' I went to her hometown with friends to visit Mutsumi-chan.

It had been eight years since I stood before Mutsumi-chan's grave. I apologized for not being able to visit for so long and reported various things to her.
Countless memories flooded back into my mind. It was hard to leave.

Afterward, we went to 'Kaizoku Ryori Funagoya,' run by Mutsumi-chan's family.
Her father, mother, and older sister, whom I hadn't seen in a long time, welcomed us with huge smiles.

Despite being extremely busy because it's a famous restaurant (everything is delicious) and it was a long weekend, her mother and sister shared many stories about Mutsumi-chan, the members of SUPER JUNKY MONKEY, and the people involved.

Her mother gave me a letter. Written in handwriting so similar that I thought it might have been written by Mutsumi-chan herself, the letter had a photo printed on it that was taken with Mutsumi-chan when I accompanied them on their US tour.
I desperately held back the tears that were about to spill over.

June 23, 2010
'LIVE WE'RE THE MOTHER of MEATLOAF! HYPER COLLECTION,' which included the previous year's reunion concert and valuable past footage, was released.

A release commemorative concert was held at Quattro, and they were also confirmed to perform at Fuji Rock.

I couldn't make it to Fuji Rock, but I certainly attended the release commemorative live show at Quattro. I never imagined I would be able to see a SUPER JUNKY MONKEY concert two years in a row.

December 25, 2015 @ Ebisu Liquidroom

This was their first live show in five years, coinciding with KEIKO-chan's visit home from living in the United States.

The supporting bands were SxOxBx and WRENCH.
Participating as DJs were Mr. Atsunori Kato, also known as Katokichi from Carburetor Boys, DJ ISHIKAWA a.k.a. TIGER HOLE, and Mr. Noriaki Endo of Devilock, who played on the same bill as SUPER JUNKY MONKEY many times during the GMF era.
