[Part-time High School] Children Who Can Breathe in a Different Environment
I would like to talk about
my son and the children around him.
My son has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
Furthermore, during junior high school,
he developed both orthostatic dysregulation and depression,
and he was in and out of the hospital, unable to attend school.
At his own request,
he decided to attend a night-time part-time high school.
When I heard 'night-time part-time high school,'
I only had the image of
delinquents who couldn't attend a full-time school.
But when he enrolled,
I was surprised to find that all the children were incredibly quiet.
Or rather,
it might be more accurate to say that children who had some kind of circumstances or emotional scars had gathered there.
ADHD, school refusal, family environments,
children who struggle with communication with others.
They were all children suffering from different burdens.
Even if they had colorful hair,
they were kind when you talked to them.
When I thought a boy was wearing a tacky shirt,
he laughed and replied,
'It's my grandmother's clothes.'
When we went fishing or clam digging at our home,
the children who heard about it
would somehow end up coming along.
We also enjoyed
drives and barbecues together.
One after another,
various children grew fond of us.
Thanks to such friends and teachers who understand diversity, there are many children who were truly saved, and there are still many more children who will need part-time high schools in the future.
However, the current situation nationwide is that
the abolition of night-time part-time high schools is progressing.
For children who could not attend full-time high schools,
part-time high schools provide a place to interact with others and a time for youth.
Children who only had a place to belong within games,
children who struggled because they didn't understand what was 'normal,'
children who couldn't talk well with others—
they are now acting for the sake of someone else.
They might be the last bastion
for children facing difficulties.
I hope they don't block the path of children
who haven't given up on learning.
Please, as long as there are people who need part-time high schools,
I want them to remain.
Thank you for reading until the end.
I would be happy if you could share your thoughts with a like or a comment.
