[Poem] As My Heart Desires
Those tears,
that anger,
I know that you have lived holding all of it.
That is why
now, gently unfasten the chains
and once more, into a new world—
This is a gentle prayer of a poem
for you, as you take that first step.

I want to live as my heart desires.
Gently removing the cold, heavy chains
that have bound me.
Those tears,
anger,
suffering,
sadness,
and joy.
Precious proof that I have lived alongside these chains.
Each and every fragment of them,
I hold firmly in these hands.
So, now,
with these trembling hands,
I let the chains fall with a clatter.
As if wings have sprouted,
with a body that has become light as air,
let me gently take a step forward.
Tears,
anger,
suffering,
sadness,
and joy.
Without fear.
In this world where everything looks new,
I will live again.
As if in prayer,
I press my clenched palms to my chest—
No longer bound by anything,
freely,
as my heart desires.
