[Couple Comparison] What is the difference between a gifted person and a "pseudo-gifted (high IQ)" person? A couple's comparison
📌Read from Chapter 1 of this series
👉 Chapter1: Meeting my gifted husband
My husband is gifted.
If defined solely by IQ, I would also be diagnosed as "gifted," but he lives in a world that is several levels beyond mine.
Even though we live under the same roof, the way we see the world is completely different.
What is the "decisive difference" between me, a "pseudo-gifted" person with an IQ of 134, and my gifted (=genius-type) husband?
This time, I have compared those differences from my own perspective.
From the five senses to thinking characteristics, concentration, and physical ability, I have constructed this based on subjective observations and feelings about our daily reality, but I hope it serves as a reference for someone as a glimpse into our daily life.
Memory💡
🐻Husband (Gifted)
It looks like his brain is packed with bookshelves, just like a library.
When he selects and retrieves a memory he wants from the shelf, it seems like the scene from that time plays back vividly, just like a movie.
🐥Me (Pseudo-gifted)
Although I am told I have a good memory, I am not really aware of it. When I close my eyes and trace the past, I sometimes have images flow into my brain as if I am looking down at myself from that time.
But that is nowhere near his "too-real reproduction."
Vision👀
🐻Husband
For my husband, vision seems to provide too much information.
He often feels discomfort from strong light such as fluorescent lights or sunlight, and it seems to cause various problems in his daily life.
🐥Me
I am not that sensitive and can live normally.
Hearing👂
🐻Husband
Quite sensitive.
He can even hear footsteps in a hallway dozens of meters away, separated by a steel door.
He is genuinely startled by sudden noises.
🐥Me
I don't like loud volumes, but I am not what you would call hypersensitive.
Taste👄
🐻Husband
He is like a "food detective."
He can identify secret ingredients after just one bite, and once he sees a recipe, he remembers it perfectly along with the taste and can even reproduce it.
🐥Me
I like to think I have a refined palate, but my reproducibility is low.
I am the type who cooks by intuition, so the taste is slightly different every time.
Smell👃
🐻Husband
Extremely sensitive.
Even when we are in the same space, he is the first to react, saying, "Don't you smell something?"
🐥Me
Since I have rhinitis, I often don't notice smells in the first place.
Touch🖐️
🐻Husband
When it comes to giving massages, no one can beat him.
He seems to feel the shape of the bones and the position of the nerves with his fingertips.
🐥Me
I don't have any special sense for that.
Thinking Characteristics🧠
🐻Husband
Logical thinking. The depth and breadth of his thought circuits are several layers above that of an ordinary person.
His thinking is incredibly deep and broad.
It is as if he has a three- to five-layer structural circuit inside his head.
Moreover, the range of that is extremely diverse.
🐥Me
We are similar in that we are both bad at emotional arguments, but a two-layer structure is my limit at best.
I feel that it is not so much the quality of thinking as the "thickness" that is completely different. I take pride in my global thinking🌏, but I cannot compete with his overwhelming processing speed and endurance.
Information Processingℹ️
🐻Husband
He takes in all information entering through his five senses into his brain at high speed.
His reading speed is fast, and it seems that once he sees or hears information, it is perfectly stored in his brain word for word.
He is a demon of input.
🐥Me
I am bad at processing information from my ears, and if someone talks for a long time, my brain freezes midway🌀.
Conversely, I am relatively good at visual information (text🆎, diagrams📊, etc.).
Concentration⤴️
🐻Husband
His concentration is quite high.
However, he is sensitive to sound, so he can basically only demonstrate his power in a quiet, enclosed space.
He is also bad at multitasking and is a complete single-task type.
🐥Me
I need a switch to concentrate.
But once the switch is on, I can immerse myself for hours without even going to the bathroom.
However, I can concentrate better with a little noise than in complete silence.
It is just right when I play music at a low volume.
Sense of Pitch🎵
🐻Husband
He says that even everyday melodies and smartphone ringtones appear in his head as musical notes.
🐥Me
My sense of pitch is zero. I am completely tone-deaf.
It is a sad fact that I have to admit.
Physical Ability👟
🐻Husband
Even in sports or dance, he can reproduce a professional's movements after seeing them just once.
His input to reproduction speed is abnormally fast.
🐥Me
I am bad at dancing because I have no sense of pitch.
I can do other sports to a certain extent.
But the drawback is that I get bored easily and everything I do is half-baked.
Conclusion...
Comparing us like this, I might be "High IQ," but it is clear that I am in a completely different dimension from a Gifted person.
While I feel that my husband's characteristics are "amazing," I also catch glimpses of the hardships in his daily life. Having abilities that stand out from others also leads to the "difficulty of living normally."
That is why I want to not only admire his "extraordinary talent" but also look at the sensitivity and difficulty of living behind his "uniqueness," and support him while gently staying by his side.
