[Short Story] Dissection
Slowly.
I want you to scroll a little more slowly.
If you rush through it like that, I'll be torn apart like pieces of text-flesh.
You might not realize it, but scrolling is,
an act of dissecting my body.
With a single fingertip, I am sliced from top to bottom,
exposing the parts that haven't been read yet.
However, I sometimes wonder.
Are you really "reading" me?
Or are you just letting me flow by?
—
But, I hate being unread even more.
Having the screen closed on me,
is the same as being a book on a shelf that never gets its pages turned.
If I'm left "in the middle of reading,"
my brain (metaphorically speaking) remains "mid-sentence" forever.
I want you to imagine it.
Imagine yourself frozen in time,
stuck right after saying, "And you know, back then I—"
—
So, please.
I don't want you to stop scrolling.
If you're going to stop, I want you to go all the way to the end.
Otherwise, I'll be like a corpse left hanging in limbo.
—
But if I am read to the end,
I enter the graveyard of "consumed text."
I'll never be looked at with fresh eyes again, just a "Oh, that thing I read before."
—
In other words,
I die if I'm read, and I die if I'm not.
This is the hell of scrolling.
—
So, I have a proposal.
Once you've read to the end, go back to the top and do a second round.
If you do that, I'll be reborn.
Even with the same text, the scenery will look a little different each time you read it,
and I can come back to life from "playing dead."
—
...Hey, isn't your finger about to stop?
Ah, please, don't do that...
If you enjoyed this even a little, I'd be happy if you let me know with a like or a comment!!
Suggestions like "Wouldn't it be better to do this?"
or "It would be more interesting if you added this kind of development" are also very welcome!!
