Report on Ueda Eigeki and its surroundings, plus thoughts on movie SNS
I have posted several articles about my thoughts on movies recently,
and since the movie theaters where I watched those films were places I had never been to before and were very lovely buildings, I had a wonderful day including the movies themselves. I felt like writing a report about the theaters, their services, and other nearby facilities, so I compiled them into an article.
If you live in Nagano Prefecture or are visiting, and you love watching movies, this is a theater I highly recommend you visit.
This movie theater is located in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture,
and is a facility called Ueda Eigeki.

The Ueda Eigeki website is here.

On the day, I arrived early to watch a movie starting at 9:00 AM, but if I may be so bold, it didn't look like a currently operating facility before opening, so I felt anxious, wondering, 'Is this the right place...? Will it be okay...?'
It is a very, very old building, apparently dating back to the Taisho era.

There is currently a ticket booth inside the building.

Before the theater opened, I walked around the charming building and took photos here and there.

September 1923
Utopia
The Lost King
I watched three movies that day.

The interior of the building is cozy, and it was packed with movie posters, lovely chairs, a stove, and pop-up booths for used bookstores and general stores. There were so many wonderful things that I didn't know where to look.

It is also lovely that the screening schedule is handwritten.

They had many used books related to movies, and I almost ended up buying a bunch, but I remembered how many unread books I have at home and managed to restrain myself.

Open weekdays 10:00–18:00, weekends and holidays 8:00–18:00

Original tumblers are also available

I had a coffee during a break between movies at the cafe I spotted from the outside earlier

The interior features retro red leather seats, and their soft, comfortable feel was truly wonderful

There was also an introduction to the repeat discount system and the "Eigeki Stamp" service available if you purchase a dedicated notebook
Especially these Eigeki stamps! Apparently, they are created for each film by someone at a nearby bookstore in Ueda City
The stamp for this poster was so charming that I ended up buying the notebook

There is a sister cinema near Ueda Eigeki, and the films shown there are different
I think it would be fun to hop between the two to watch movies

The scene where the couple eats a meal in the middle of the film

They look just like the couple on the poster!

The scene where she reads a book about Richard III in the park
Not only was the movie enjoyable, but the theater itself was a fun place to spend time, with so many things to see and a beautiful building. I live close enough to visit often, so I felt it was a waste that I hadn't visited sooner and reflected on that
While there are no dining facilities at Ueda Eigeki, it is located in the city of Ueda, so there are plenty of nearby soba shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and pubs to choose from
On the day I went
"September 1923" ➡️ Lunch at a nearby curry shop ➡️ Back to Ueda Eigeki for coffee ➡️ "The Beasts" ➡️ "The Lost King" ➡️ A pub in front of Ueda Station
That was my schedule
I was coming and going from the theater between 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM, and I realized how nice it is to immerse myself in movies like this once in a while
I hope to visit again before the end of the year

By the way, the reason I went to Ueda Eigeki was that I had been using a movie app called Filmarks for a while.
It's an app where you can write down your thoughts on movies and look up movie information, but the search function for movie information is just incredibly amazing.
When you look up a movie, it shows you information about the cast and staff, links to the official website and Twitter for theaters currently showing it, helps you find the location of the theater by linking with map apps, provides links to promotional videos on YouTube if available, and even includes links to Wikipedia pages.
Also, for movies that have soundtracks on Spotify, there are even links to those, making it incredibly convenient and fun to look up all sorts of things.
The three films I watched this time were all ones I had wanted to see, and when I realized I could watch them all in one day at Ueda Eigeki, I hurried over there.
I only use it for searching information and reading reviews, but I also recommend it to those who want to keep detailed records!
So, that was an article about how going out to the theater to watch movies is great.
Please do come visit Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture.
