RELIEF -10: "OEAU Logo"

RELIEF -10: "OEAU Logo": 300mm x 300mm: Stone clay + acrylic

I suddenly felt like making something pop and funky, so I tried turning a paper-cut logo I had created previously into a 3D object using clay.

"Paper-cut Sketch (3) Logo Design: OEAU" (Posted March 24, 2024)

Before painting:

Ideally, I should have cut a wooden board cleanly, but since I rolled out the clay to a 5mm thickness and cut and pasted it, it ended up looking quite wobbly. This is also a form of "heta-uma" (bad-good) art!

It is being turned into a 3D object like this. The fun of making letters three-dimensional. Or perhaps, the fun of how the fluid spontaneity of paper-cutting changes into a kind of fixed certainty through the effort of making it three-dimensional.

"OEAU" stands for "Osamu Ebata: Architecture + Urbanism"
It is the name of my architectural design office (currently inactive). It represents my areas of expertise in architectural design and urban planning, while also using four letters from the Japanese vowels "A-I-U-E-O".
Though, it's missing the "I" for "Love" or "Intelligence," just kidding.
My partiality for primary colors is, of course, reflected in my architectural designs as well. I have previously introduced the "Spa Arena," completed in 2001, as an example of my "Polychrome Architecture" philosophy. (Posted June 4, 2022)

The exterior is simple, but I created a three-dimensional, colorful object-like feel for the entrance canopy.
