What flower is this?

It varies slightly by region,
but it is a
flower that blooms in May,
the citrus flower.

So it's a white flower, not yellow...

As someone from Hokkaido, unfortunately,
I don't know the citrus flower
or its refreshing citrus scent.
One of my favorite aromas

is blood orange.
Since it's related to oranges,

I'm sure I would like the scent of citrus flowers too.
My dream is
to be surrounded by white flowers in full bloom,

follow the scent like a dog,
and take a deep, satisfying breath...

This flower is sung about in a children's song.

Right after the war,
the children's singer Masako Kawada sang it,
and it became a national hit
called "The Hill Where Citrus Flowers Bloom."
She was 12 years old at the time.

I loved this song
that played on the radio,
and I used to sing along to it.
I can still sing it even now...

I thought it was a bit more mature than other children's songs,
and that it was perfect for an older sister with a younger brother to sing.
Recently, I found "The Hill Where Citrus Flowers Bloom"


in the articles of two different noters,
and I'm writing this out of nostalgia.

The flower language for citrus flowers includes
purity, affection, innocence, loveliness,
and a bride's joy, among others.

In the West, orange blossoms are
a "guardian deity of brides" in Europe,
and are said to be used in weddings.

It seems the flower language "a bride's joy" was adopted in Japan
in honor of that.

In the fragrant month of May,
the month when citrus flowers also scent the air,

like the girl
in the lyrics,

I want to stand on a hill,

be blown by the wind passing through the trees,
and gaze out
at the calm sea.
