Chapter 4: I'm the Best. But Keep Watching Me, Okay?

“The next planet I visited was, well, a planet that just wanted to be watched,” Lolo said.
“Wanted to be watched?”


“Yeah. It was the kind of planet that would get really anxious if there wasn't someone there to watch it.”
Living on that planet was Bobo the elephant.



He had a sparkly cape, a golden crown (made of paper), and a whole row of trophies he’d made himself.

“Welcome! I am Bobo, the amazing elephant!
I’m being amazing again today, so please give me a round of applause!”



Lolo couldn't help but clap his hands.
Then Bobo immediately said,



“More! A bigger round of applause! And, if you could, shout ‘Long live Bobo!’”
“Um, long live... Bobo...?”
“Thank you! You’re a good panda! Alright, I’m going to strike a pose, so clap every time I do!”



Lolo clapped every time he saw a pose.
A pose with one leg raised.
A pose shaking his ears.
Honestly, they weren't all that different, but Lolo watched carefully and clapped properly.



“Hey, Bobo. Why do you want people to clap so much?”
“Because I’m amazing! If someone doesn't see it, it doesn't count as being amazing, right!”



Lolo thought for a moment before saying,



“But... if there was no one here, would you not be amazing anymore, Bobo?”
“Ugh... that’s...”



Bobo’s ears drooped just a little.



“Being anxious if no one is watching might be a little bit lonely.”
“...No! I’m not lonely at all...!”



But at that moment, Bobo’s eyes were just a little bit watery.



Lolo said softly,



“I was watching. You were amazing, Bobo.”
“...Really?”
“Really. Your ear-shaking was very smooth.”
“Oh, yeah... thank you. That makes me a little shy.”



When Lolo went to leave, Bobo said in a hurry,



“Come back again! By next time, I’ll have practiced the jumping-spinning-ear-shake pose!”
“Yeah! I’ll watch it again! I’ll have my applause ready!”





Lolo waved at the slightly lonely-looking Bobo and left the planet.

The feeling of “I want you to watch me” might be something everyone has.
But if you don't convey it gently, it can become a little bit noisy.

Thinking about that, Lolo flew off to the next planet.



The next one was—
“The planet of someone sleepy who only eats dreams,” he said.
