かわいい車が目に飛び込んできた。
丸みを帯びたフォルムが愛らしくて絵本に出てきそうな親しみやすさがある。
わぁと思わず声が出た。
天野 雫さんがゴミ清掃車をデコる記事の企画を
紹介しており、ご自身も参加されていた。
新企画を立ち上げられたのはこちら

ちらっとのぞいてみたら
自由に好きなものをデコって参加していいと
書いてあった。
私もやってみたくなり、すぐさま、
チャッピーと壁打ち開始。
最初に思い浮かんだテーマは「青い地球を守っている」だった。
ゴミを集めてくれる人がいなかったら、街はどうなるのだろう。
たぶん、あっという間にゴミだらけになる。いつもの道も、公園も、商店街も、駅までの道も、きれいな日常ではなくなってしまう。
そう考えたら、清掃員さんはただゴミを集めている人ではないのだと思った。
街の空気を守っている人。私たちの毎日を支えてくれている人。見えないところで平和を運んでくれている人。
そんなイメージで、青い清掃車のイラストを考えた。
作ってくれたイラスト
青空の下、街を走る青い清掃車。車体には、青い地球。白い鳩。緑の葉っぱ。きれいな街で遊ぶ子どもたち。
そして、清掃員さんが最高の笑顔で手を振っている。
その姿を見て、子どもも手を振り返している。
ああ、これだなと思った。
清掃車が街を走っているだけで、「今日も街を守ってくれているんだな」と思える。子どもが手を振りたくなる。大人も少し嬉しくなる。
そんな清掃車があったらいいなと思った。
そしてよく見ると、左下の草花のそばにちょびがこっそりこちらをのぞいている。
ちょびは何も言わない。でもたぶん見守っている。
青い地球を守る清掃車。街をきれいにしてくれる人たちへのありがとう。子どもが手を振りたくなる、平和の使者。
イラストを見ていたらなんだか嬉しくなってそして感謝の気持ちが溢れてきた。
きれいな街は勝手にきれいなわけじゃない。
誰かの仕事が、誰かの朝を、誰かの帰り道を、誰かの今日をそっと支えている。
あなたの仕事がみんなの毎日を支えています。

I decided to take part in a project to decorate a garbage collection truck.
The first theme that came to mind was this:
Protecting the blue Earth.
What would happen if there were no people collecting our garbage?
The streets would probably fill up with trash very quickly.
The roads we walk every day, the parks, the shopping streets, and the path to the station would no longer feel clean or peaceful.
When I thought about it that way, I realized that sanitation workers are not just people who collect garbage.
They protect the air of the town.
They support our everyday lives.
They quietly bring peace to the places we live.
With that image in mind, I started thinking about an illustration for a blue garbage truck.
A blue garbage truck driving under a bright blue sky.
A blue Earth painted on its side.
White doves flying around it.
Green leaves floating in the air.
Children playing in a clean and peaceful town.
And there, a sanitation worker is smiling and waving with the brightest smile.
A child waves back.
When I saw that image, I thought,
“Yes. This is it.”
Just by seeing the truck driving through town, I could feel:
“Someone is protecting our town again today.”
It is the kind of truck that makes children want to wave.
It is the kind of truck that makes adults feel a little happier, too.
That is the kind of garbage truck I would love to see.
And if you look closely, near the flowers and greenery in the lower left corner, Chobi is hiding.
Chobi is a black-heavy black-and-white hachiware cat.
He does not say anything.
But I think he is quietly watching over the town.
A garbage truck that protects the blue Earth.
A message of gratitude to the people who keep our town clean.
A peaceful messenger that makes children want to wave.
At first, it was just a decoration project.
But the more I looked at the illustration,
the more it made me feel happy.
A clean town does not stay clean by itself.
Someone’s work supports someone’s morning.
Someone’s work supports someone’s way home.
Someone’s work supports someone’s ordinary day.
Thank you, always.
Your work supports everyone’s everyday life.
And somewhere in the flowers,
Chobi is probably giving you a tiny round of applause.
