Nostalgic songs that play at random moments
This week is what they call working from home, but it's really just staying at home.
It was finally decided that I'll be going in next week, but things are so relaxed that I've been spending my time at home taking it easy.
Of course, there are things I have to do, but without anyone watching, I do tend to slack off a bit 😅
Since I'm basically holed up at home, my home cooking has been unbalanced, and for some reason, I've been feeling under the weather since this morning.
I decided to get at least some vegetables in for lunch and headed to the Sukiya in my neighborhood.
I ordered the beef bowl salad set and devoured it at lightning speed.
A little while later, the usual in-store broadcast, Sukiya Radio, started.
Actually, I quite like it, and one of the things I look forward to when going to Sukiya is the motivation of listening to the energetic Koji Takamori.
I especially like the request corner, and since this corner accepts any genre as long as it's a song, anime songs are often played.
Once, when I posted on Twitter about how surprised I was that Aqours' "Jingle Bells ga Tomaranai" was played, the person who actually sent the email found it through an ego search, which was a very otaku-like experience.
But I digress.
I was listening closely to the radio, wondering what kind of song it would be this time, when I heard "the pillows" and thought, "Oh?" and then a familiar song started playing.
What played was "Funny Bunny".
It's a famous song, but it seems like a rather niche choice for the pillows.
The reason I use such vague phrasing despite knowing the band is because, in truth, this is the only song of theirs I really like.
I first learned of this song through the manga "SKET DANCE".
Explaining the summary of this manga here would be off-topic, so I'll just note that it's a gag manga about high school clubs that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
I used to love this manga so much that I was really into it, and there's a story in the work about a school festival.
The main characters end up forming a band in the story.
The song they performed at that time was this "Funny Bunny."
Apparently, it's because the author liked the pillows.
It was also adapted into an anime, and this song was performed as a cover, and I was moved by how perfectly the lyrics fit that story.
The person who sent the email probably didn't play it for that reason, though.
The feeling of having my spirits lifted by hearing a song I have a little bit of an emotional attachment to.
Just a little spice in everyday life.
It brings a little bit of brightness to the heart of a shut-in.
I really do love Sukiya Radio for giving me moments like that.
I headed home feeling a little bit cheerful.
