[AviUtl] This is all you need to see to solve it! How to improve stuttering (Part 1)
Hello everyone. This is Wido from Funabashi Denshi.
This may be sudden, but have you ever been troubled by the editing screen stuttering while you were editing a video?
Has that ever happened to you?
"Oh no, it's stuttering so much I can't edit! I have... uh... 30 minutes left until the video upload deadline!? I'm doomed..."
I can almost hear voices saying things like that (lol).
AviUtl is very easy to use and has great extensibility. However, depending on your computer, if there are too many objects, the movement can become stuttery. That's a problem, isn't it?
So, I will introduce ways to reduce stuttering in AviUtl.
Prerequisite knowledge: "What is cache size?"
Articles of this type often want you to install scripts or plugins, but you can sometimes reduce stuttering by changing the settings of the AviUtl application itself.
What is that, you ask? It's something called "cache size."
For those of you wondering what on earth cache size is, let me explain...
Cache size is the maximum capacity that AviUtl can use for video editing. By increasing the cache size, you increase the space allocated within your computer for video editing, which means processing efficiency increases and it becomes less likely to get bogged down.
It's easier to work when you have a large desk, right?
Well, in Wido's case, I end up putting snacks in the empty space, so my work efficiency drops significantly (lol).
However, please be aware that if the cache size is too large, it will cause a crash.
Time to configure!
Now, let's go ahead and configure the settings.
Watching the video below will make it easier to understand visually, so please take a look.

To set the size appropriate for your computer, you need to check how many GB of memory your computer has.
You can check this from Windows settings: "System" -> "About" -> "Installed RAM." It is likely 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB.
Once you have checked, remember it and open AviUtl.
Select "File" in the top left of AviUtl, then select "Preferences." Select "System Settings."
Then, please change the cache size.
The guidelines are as follows:
4GB: 1024
8GB: 2048
16GB: 4096
32GB: 8192
Once you have finished entering the value, press "OK" and restart AviUtl.
This completes the cache size setting.
Has it become at least a little lighter now?
For those who say "It's still not enough!", of course I will introduce other methods, so please look forward to the next article!
