Asako's Letter - Sealed Envelope
It has been a long time since I heard from you, how are you doing?
Since the night of May 5th, Grandfather (Jutaro) has suffered a stroke,
and he is just sleeping peacefully.
The doctor comes every day, but there is no change. He cannot even swallow water, so he is gradually weakening, but his heart is very strong, so I cannot say anything for sure at the moment.
I thought about asking you to come home immediately, but even if you came, he cannot talk,
so it would be the same. I am nursing him day and night.
Riyoko has also taken a day off from school,
and Teiko and Teruki are helping to keep the shop running.
Teruki passed his driving test on the first try, and he just needs to go to Harigahama on the 23rd to pick up his license.
Our relatives have all come to visit, but he just sleeps peacefully, and although he occasionally moves his left hand and left foot, there has been no change at all for three days now.
He has always been a healthy person who ate well for a long time, so I think he will be fine, but
if anything happens, I will send a telegram immediately, so try not to be away from home except for school.
Do not worry about various things, and please study hard until you hear from us.
First of all, just letting you know. Sincerely,
May 9th, From Mother
To Michiya
Today is
The rainy month of May is already over, and tomorrow we change into our summer clothes.
I received your letter today. You seem to have become very thin, but are you healthy?
I am worried and wondering if I should send the desk soon,
but if Mr. Furukawa goes to Tokyo to buy stock, he needs a lump sum of money, and since he is running the business every day, it is quite difficult. In the end, he cannot leave until he gets help from Ujiichi's mother, and it seems he cannot make it until the beginning of June, so he hasn't given me a date yet. I am thinking about sending it from home, but it is a large item, so it must be difficult to pack.
I am thinking of a desk, a chair, an electric rice cooker, and a dining table (folding legs), and for now, I have asked Mr. Furukawa. Last Sunday, the mother of Shinji-sama from Chikuda (Nishi Ward) passed away, and it was her funeral. I also attended, and since her children have grown up and are all employed, there were many gifts from various places, and it was a very grand ceremony.
Fortunately, since it was Sunday, Riyoko was watching the shop at the center. Teruki was also busy with the village river cleaning, so the whole family was very busy. Today is Father's payday, and although I know we cannot always rely on it as we hope, I will send as much as I can, so let's plan for the month and stop wasting our nerves.
I wanted to write back to Mr. Kimura, but with my poor handwriting as you can see, I cannot bring myself to write. Please give him my regards.
I will stop writing here for today and send this off quickly.
