鴨川納涼床と貴船の川床：2023年5月27日（土）

【要旨】
京都の「川床」には「かわゆか」と「かわどこ」の二通りの読み方がある。鴨川の川床（かわゆか）は豊臣秀吉の時代に始まり，現在は高床式で5月から9月にかけて営業される。一方，貴船の川床（かわどこ）は大正時代に鯖街道の休憩所として始まり，川の上で料理を楽しむ文化として定着した。いずれも京都の夏の風物詩として親しまれている。

京都で「川床」というと，「かわゆか」と「かわどこ」の二通りの読み方があるので注意しよう。

　豊臣秀吉の時代から始まったとされる鴨川の川床（かわゆか）は，現在は毎年５月１日から９月30日までの鴨川右岸（上木屋町，先斗町，西石垣，下木屋町の各エリアで今年は87店舗）で楽しむことができる。明治時代までは鴨川両岸に店舗があったそうだ。

　江戸時代の鴨川の川床（かわゆか）は水際の床几式と高床式の両方があったとされる。現在は高床式のみとなった鴨川納涼床は，毎年４月末に設置工事が始まり，10月初めに撤去工事が行われる。

　一方，貴船の川床（かわどこ）は鯖街道の道中の休憩場所として，大正時代から川の上に床几（しょうぎ）を置いて川床料理を楽しむようになったとされる（貴船ふじやHPによる）。

　川床（かわゆか，かわどこ）は京都の風物詩の一つである。

In Kyoto, the term kawadoko (riverside dining platforms) has two pronunciations: kawayuka and kawadoko. In Kyoto, there are two ways to read the term "川床": "kawayuka" and "kawadoko," so please be careful.

Kawayuka, which is said to have originated in the era of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, can be enjoyed on the right bank of the Kamo River from May 1st to September 30th each year (this year, there are 87 shops in the areas of Kamikiyamachi, Pontocho, Saiseki, and Shimokiyamachi). It is said that there were shops on both banks of the Kamo River until the Meiji era.

During the Edo period, there were both sukiya-style and elevated-style kawadoko along the Kamo River. The current Kamogawa Noryo-yuka, which has only the elevated style, begins construction at the end of April each year and removal work is carried out at the beginning of October.

On the other hand, Kawadoko in Kifune is said to have started in the Taisho era as a resting place along the Saba Kaido, where they placed a floor table on the river to enjoy Kawadoko cuisine (according to Kifune Fujuya's website).

川床 (kawayuka and kawadoko) is one of the iconic traditions of Kyoto.
