Happy Writing Marathon #62: 'What is something you have been meaning to do for years?'
Something I have been meaning to do for years.
It is the challenge of enjoying life with lightness.
I want to increase the time I spend enjoying myself throughout the day.
And I want to increase the variety of things I enjoy, too.
That is what I am thinking.
Looking back, I feel that until now, I have been setting limits on my own enjoyment, thinking,
'This much enjoyment is enough.'
I would settle for something, thinking, 'Well, this is probably fine.'
But in reality, I could have enjoyed myself much more.
Why couldn't I enjoy myself?
It is because I was spending more energy than I realized on things that hindered my enjoyment.
I would focus on what was missing, thinking, 'I don't have this,' or 'I wish it were more like this.'
Then I would seek a distraction and return to the same state.
I think I was repeating that cycle.
Furthermore, I have spent a lot of time learning, thinking,
'Life will get better if I learn.'
Of course, learning is fun.
'Oh, so that's what it was!'
The moment I understand something, I still get excited.
But I realized something.
It is even more important not just to learn, but to take action using what I have learned.
Instead of just increasing my knowledge, I want to try laughing, talking, doing things, and enjoying time with my family.
From now on, I want to spend my time on these things as well.
That is why I am letting go of things little by little.
The feeling that 'I can't be happy unless I have more.'
The assumption that 'It has to be this way.'
Regrets about the past. Worries about the future.
I am gradually reclaiming the energy I used to spend on those things.
And I am using that energy for
the joy and abundance that exists right now.
My own good qualities.
My partner's good qualities. My daughter's good qualities.
And the good qualities of the three of us as a family.
'Look, we already have so many good things.'
When I think that and look around, I feel a little happy.
There is delicious food. We can laugh together as a family. There is time to learn.
I can talk to AI and make new discoveries.
Come to think of it, the seeds of enjoyment are already everywhere.
Perhaps all that is left is to find them and savor them.
From now on, while borrowing the power of AI, I want the three of us to cooperate and try new things.
Change our conversations a little. Change one action.
And start by laughing and saying, 'Shall we try this?'
It doesn't have to be perfect. If it doesn't go well, it's fine to just say, 'Well, let's try it next time!'
To enjoy life more, I am changing what I 'meant to do someday' into
'I tried it a little today.'That is my
new challenge from now on.
The second half of life. It seems I can still enjoy it a lot.
No, I believe that from here on, it will become even more interesting.
