A Preschooler Knew Why the Hamburg Steak Wasn't Delicious [Parenting Struggle Series]
This is a story from when my eldest daughter was still in preschool.
That day was her recital.
When I asked her what she wanted to eat as a reward, her answer was that certain hamburg steak restaurant.
It was a Saturday afternoon.
The restaurant was packed.
Finally, the long-awaited hamburg steak was brought to us.
I took a bite.
“...It’s delicious... yeah. Is it delicious?”
However, my wife and I looked at each other.
“...Something is missing.”
The flavor?
The way it was cooked?
The meat?
I couldn't figure it out even after thinking about it.
That was when my daughter muttered.
“It’s not sizzling.”
What was missing wasn't the flavor.
The sound from the iron plate.
The rising steam.
The heat the moment it arrived in front of us.
Maybe it took a while to bring it out after it was cooked because there were so many customers.
Adults think with their heads.
But children feel with their five senses.
My daughter, that was honestly more interesting than today's recital!
