Lilac Cup: Happy Results
Rose buds, and konpeito candy rolling on my tongue

I won the Grand Prize with my poem about rose buds.
It is a tie with Fuu-san. Here is Fuu-san's poem:
Spring melancholy, an afternoon of squeezing whipped cream

Congratulations, Fuu-san! I am so happy we both won together as friends.๐

First, I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff members.
I imagine it took a great deal of effort to organize this tournament.
Starting from the announcements, summarizing the submissions from each person, writing comments,
preparing for voting, counting the votes, and announcing the resultsโjust writing it down makes me tired.
I truly have nothing but gratitude. Thank you so much.
On top of that, I received congratulatory comments from many people, including the staff, and I felt flustered, wondering if I really deserved this...
But since it is rare to be praised so much,
I will accept it with joy.
Since losing my father at the end of last year, I have had to deal with many heartbreaking things, such as inheritance procedures and sorting through his belongings. I have finally settled down now.
During that time, posting articles on note, receiving comments, and reading everyone's work saved me so much.
I noticed myself laughing while reading articles and comments,
and my heart warmed as I thought, 'Oh, I'm laughing!'
Receiving such an undeserved award feels like being encouraged to 'keep going.'
Thank you all so very much. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I also received some 'unofficial awards,' so please let me introduce them.

ใRose buds, and konpeito candy rolling on my tongueใ
This is a poem that ends with a cut at the upper five syllables. I feel the connection is wonderful, capturing the breath of spring that is not too sweet. Rose buds, and konpeito candy rolling in the mouth. Are you observing the breath of the roses while eating konpeito and thinking, 'Oh!'? It might just be a depiction of that scene, but I felt that the shape of the konpeito somehow overlapped with the thorns of the rose, and the protrusions melting in the mouth were interpreted as the feeling of the rose gradually losing its sharp edges as I looked at it. The sensation of the konpeito rolling around also has something in common with the 'Oh!' feeling when finding a rose bud, which is very interesting. Writing 'rose' in kanji increases the intensity of the flower and fades the gentle feeling, but by bringing in konpeito, the noble feeling of the rose is connected to the cuteness of its breath. It is a work that brilliantly dyes the difficulty of composing spring with roses in the colors of spring.

ใRose buds, and konpeito candy rolling on my tongueใ
I thought the combination was lovely because while soothing my scratchy throat, the rose buds also looked like konpeito.
The phrase 'rolling on my tongue' conveys both the sweetness and the bumpy texture of the konpeito.
I learned for the first time that while 'rose' is a summer seasonal word, 'rose buds' is a spring seasonal word.

Rose buds, and konpeito candy rolling on my tongue
This haiku is impressive for its description of "rolling on the tongue" and the mysterious combination of konpeito candy and rose buds.
While gazing at the cute rose buds, which seem so out of place on the thorny branches, I wonder if I, too, should shed more of my own thorns and become more rounded.
As I ponder this, I check the prickly texture of the konpeito, rolling it on my tongue until it becomes smooth.
It was a haiku that made me want to imagine all sorts of things.
