Life Planning | Avoiding Unrewarded Effort: [Effective Goal Setting] and How to Reflect

This is Narushima. @freeowner171

It has been a while since the last update on Stand.fm...
a bit of time has passed...

*As you can tell if you listen to the beginning of the audio,
I intended to record this for a May release,
but it took over a month to actually publish it (lol

▼ What are life purpose and goal setting using Drucker x Balance Wheel?

With the rainy season bringing so much rain,
isn't this the time of year
when you feel a bit sluggish?

Actually, this kind of timing is
the perfect chance
to reflect on your life's purpose.

Today, I will share
the concrete methods for doing so.

Life planning in 5 stages

The life planning method
that I practice
consists of 5 stages.

Starting from the very top...

1: Purpose
2: Goals (Purpose quantified)
3: Strategy (Resource allocation policy)
4: Tactics (Concrete measures)
5: Combat (Daily actions)

When these 5 stages
are connected with consistency,

your life will become
exactly what you want it to be.

Conversely, if there is no consistency,
no matter how hard you work every day,

you will end up
like a bicycle
with its pedals spinning in the air.

Well, it's no wonder your life
doesn't turn out the way you want...

Designing your life with a balance wheel

It is better to have multiple purposes in life,
not just one.

In coaching theory,
this is called a 'Balance Wheel'.

Since there are many genres
in life,

it is a way of thinking where you set multiple purposes
in a balanced way
and aim to fulfill them all.

And I realized that these multiple genres

align with the 7 major genres of
best-selling content
.
I realized this.

Those 7 major genres are...

1: Money
2: Business
3: Self-Growth
4: Relationships
5: Spiritual (Spirit)
6: Health & Beauty
7: Hobbies & Others

If you decide on a theme for this year for each of these 7 genres,
it becomes much easier to spend the year in line with your goals.

Examples of actual theme setting
It becomes easier to live a year that is very much in line with your purpose.

Examples of actual theme setting

To give you a concrete example...

My business theme for 2013 was
"Improve copywriting skills"
.

This was because at the time I changed jobs from a mega-bank to a publishing company,

the core skill I used the most was
copywriting.

The following year, the theme was
"Create a recurring revenue business"
.

Actually, the recurring revenue business I created at that time lasted for over 10 years until December 2024.

It was a subscription service for over 20,000 yen per month,
and it was used by a total of over 1,000 people.

(The circumstances for why I quit are special, though.
If you are curious, please ask me individually...)

In another year, I set the theme of "Create my own content"
,

and I became the only employee who served as both an author and a seminar instructor
while still being a publishing company employee.

As a result, I became able to sell my own content
without relying on the publishing company.

Thanks to that, I am now able to be independent
and talk to you here on Stand.fm and note.

Specific examples in the health category

For example, in my case,
in the health category,
I had one bad result in my blood test, so

"I set a theme of 'losing weight to improve it.'"
I set that as my theme.

I actually lost 8 kilograms and
was able to return my numbers to the normal range.

(I'm starting to rebound a little again, so
I'm working on it again...)

Like this, things that can be measured with numbers
are easy to set as goals.

Deciding what to continue and what to stop

You don't need to overthink the strategy
for achieving your goals.

You just need to think about two simple things.

● Things to continue
● Things to stop

Continue doing things that
contribute to achieving your goal.

Self-satisfying things that do not contribute
to achieving your goal, or

things you've realized are meaningless,
should be stopped one after another.

Actually, increasing the things you stop
will increase your activity level.

People inevitably want to
pack too much in,

but they end up in a state where they are too busy
and can't get anything done.

If you are going to try something new,
it is better to think about
what to cut first.

A way of thinking to find a breakthrough

To reach goals outside of your current situation,
you need to break through walls.

At that time, an effective
keyword for self-questioning is

"What is the breakthrough?"

.

Participating in seminars
● Hiring a consultant
● Doing things you have never done before
● Increasing conversations with people

In particular, things that involve strong pain,
such as intensive training seminars,
tend to create an impact
and are more likely to become a breakthrough.

However, a 900-yen paperback you happen to come across
can also be a breakthrough, so

it does not necessarily
have to be expensive.

How was it?

Review your purpose periodically
and maintain consistency with your daily actions.

The more you can do this,
the more your life will become what you want it to be.

The stronger the consistency,
the more it feels like the pedals are engaged.

Basically, living a life with
good energy efficiency
means a life where
what you do is easily rewarded.

I truly hope that you, too,
will live such a life.

With that said,

please also listen to the new audio.
