▼Things to research to create interesting content
Since the DRM series wrapped up
nicely last time,
this episode is dedicated to answering
questions from listeners.
Here is the question I received.
"Please teach me how to generate content."
It's a simple question, but
there are two important points
you need to know here.
I'll talk about them in order.
To begin with, what is content?
If you want to generate content, first
"What is content?"
is something you need to grasp.
If you skip this and think about it, it feels difficult,
and you'll become reluctant to start.
Actually, it's a very simple story.
Press the record button,
press the stop button,
and save it with a name.
With this, the content
is established.
In other words,
there are only two requirements for content to be established.
It has a 'beginning' and an 'end'
It has a 'title'
That's all.
Whether the content is interesting or not is
a different story.
Of course, if it's interesting,
it's easier to attract an audience,
and easier to turn them into fans.
If it's paid content,
it's also easier for them to be satisfied after buying it.
But the minimum requirement for it to exist is
just to record and save it.
I want you to think of it
lightly, starting here.
At the very least, whether it's a smartphone or a computer,
they both have recording functions,
so you can just start recording without thinking,
and finish recording, and you've got one piece of content.
Actually, I once had a conversation with my child
recorded on my Apple Watch
without me even knowing it.
It turned out to be 19 hours worth of
content... lol
I probably just
pressed it by mistake.
When I listened to the contents, for some reason,
my son was
'I want to be a company president'
insisting on that,
'Then how about a section manager?'
I asked, and he
hated it and started crying lol
Also, there was talk about how you can get snacks at FamilyMart
using PayPay,
and mysterious parent-child economic talk
was recorded endlessly.
It's interesting when you look back,
and what this means is,
even casual conversation can become
good content depending on how you frame it,
and conversely, it can also become
completely boring.
Creating content
itself is just
that simple.
Please first grasp
the most basic definition.
Two approaches to making it interesting
So you know you can 'create it'.
Then, how do you make
the content interesting?
There are
two approaches to this.
The first is,
a method of extracting
highly original and
rare experiences
from within yourself.
The second is,
a method of first searching for themes
that are popular in the world, and then choosing
one you can talk about yourself.
If you are doing this for business,
the second one is overwhelmingly recommended.
First, research what kind of themes
have needs in the world,
grasp the big picture, and list them up.
From among those,
choose a theme you can talk about.
With this order,
there is a higher possibility
of being able to tell stories that others want to hear.
Conversely,
When you try to search for
rare experiences within yourself,
"I don't have any such experiences..."
some people get discouraged right there, and even if you yourself
think
"This is an amazing experience that only I have had"
and talk about it,
it is quite common
that no one will be
interested.
People who say they cannot
create content and
get stuck
often think in a
very self-centered way.
First, please start by
researching what kind of content
is popular in the world.
List up 10 pioneers
When researching,
do it as concretely as possible.
For example,
if you want to create content
in the self-improvement genre,
list up 10 people by name
who are already popular
for what you intend to talk about.
If you cannot do this,
it means you lack
the basic knowledge to begin with.
I want you to try this
as a baseline.
Among those who say
they cannot create content,
there are actually quite a few cases where
they simply haven't created any
due to a lack of knowledge.
Now, let's assume you have
listed 10 people.
In the beginning,
it should still be difficult
to say something different
from those 10 pioneers.
Therefore,
you can focus on thecommon points among pioneers A, B, and C,
'These are the common points'
is fine, or
'These are the common points, but this is what's different'
is also fine.
By analyzing 10 people,
the 'perspective' used for analysis itselfbecomes
original content.
This is the
first step for beginners.
For those who cannot even decide on a genre
'I can't even narrow down the genre to research in the first place'
I think there are people who feel this way.
In that case, first,
think about why you want to create content.
Please start by thinking about that.
There are broadly two patterns.
Pattern 1: People with a strong passion
People with a strong passion,
like a mission, vision, or
values (corporate philosophy).
For such people,
the genre should already be
somewhat narrowed down by that passion.
The subjects to research
will naturally become clear.
Pattern 2: People who want to make money
People who don't have a particular passion,
but want to earn money
because they heard content sells.
For those people,
the genres where it is easy for
individuals to enter and make money
are somewhat predetermined,
so you should research those.
I categorize them into
the '7 Major Genres'.
Business
Money (including investment)
Self-growth (self-improvement)
Human relationships (interpersonal)
Spiritual
Beauty and Health
Language and Others
By the way, among 'Others',
the largest and easiest
for individuals to do is language.
If language learning doesn't click for you,
English alone is fine.
Try researching these seven genres,
and if there is a genre that you find
fun to keep researching
even if you don't earn a single yen,
you will surely be able to continue that business.
Once you've done that,
go back to what we discussed earlier and try listing
10 pioneers in that field.
Summary
Here is a summary of the answer to
'I don't know how to create content.'
The only requirements for content are
a 'beginning and end' and a 'title'.
Start by thinking about it casually.
If you want to create interesting content,
research popular themes in the world first,
then choose something you can talk about.
List 10 pioneers by name,
and turn your analytical perspective
into content.
If you can't decide on a genre,
research the 7 major genres,
and enter the one you enjoy the most.
To sum it up in one phrase,
'List and analyze 10 pioneers,
and turn that perspective into content.'
That is all there is to it.
So,
please listen to today's new audio.
