"Gasoline will be cheaper from March 19"—I want to clear up this misunderstanding
On March 11, the government officially announced the resumption of gasoline subsidies. Because many media outlets reported that "subsidies will start from March 19," many people seem to think that "if I refuel on the 19th, it will be cheaper."

In reality, that is not the case.
Subsidies are paid to petroleum wholesalers (at the wholesale stage). The current inventory at each gas station was purchased at the higher pre-subsidy price. Retail prices will only drop once new fuel is delivered. Because inventory turnover rates vary by station, the timing of the reflection will also vary, but it is generally expected to be from the end of March to early April.
Why have prices risen this much?
On February 28, the U.S. military and the Israeli military carried out large-scale attacks on Iranian military facilities. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps notified ships near the Strait of Hormuz that passage was prohibited, and the strait has effectively been in a state of blockade.
The Strait of Hormuz is the "chokepoint of oil" through which about 20% of the world's crude oil supply passes. 94% of Japan's crude oil imports depend on the Middle East, and 80-90% of tankers pass through this strait. Japan's energy situation is structurally more vulnerable than that of Europe and the United States.

To business owners and operators, there is something I want you to check right now.
These subsidies also apply to diesel, kerosene, and heavy oil. Businesses in the delivery, construction, and manufacturing industries should review their fuel cost management after confirming the timing of the subsidy reflection.
Also, if the calculation method for commuting allowances is not clearly stated in your work regulations, now is a good opportunity to organize it. By reviewing allowances in response to rising gasoline prices and thoroughly managing mileage records for company vehicle fuel costs, you can prevent trouble during tax audits.
The sustainability of the funding (approximately 280 billion yen), future price scenarios, and a practical checklist are explained in the article.
