A tidy space heals my heart
Hello, this is Akimam.
Last time, for a collaborative magazine project, I wrote about "my healing."
And this time, it's another healing article. This is the second one✌️
For me, what is healing besides my children...?
Even when I thought about it, nothing particular came to mind, but
I remembered Kaeruko-san's article where she said
"Self-satisfaction equals healing,"
and I thought, maybe I have that too.
That is,
"Organizing and tidying up."

Even when I say organizing and tidying up, it's not anything as grand as
minimalism or
stylish storage techniques.
It's just that I've always been a bit uncomfortable with a messy room.
If there are many things on the table or things scattered on the floor, I feel restless and want to tidy up immediately.
I can't stand leaving dishes to pile up, so I wash them right after eating. Or I put them in the dishwasher.
Of course, when you're living your life,
it's inevitable that things will get messy
or dirty.
Especially when raising children,
you clean up, and it gets messy again.
It's a never-ending cycle, isn't it?
Even so,
I want to keep at least the places in my line of sight
as tidy as possible.
I just love
a "tidy space."It makes me feel at ease.

For me, a tidy space
has been something I've taken for granted since I was little.
My childhood home wasn't very big,
and it was the kind of house where it would get hard to walk through if things piled up,
so my mother always kept it neatly organized.
Thinking about it now,
I realize she must have been working hard
to make it easy for everyone to live in
within that limited space.
Maybe that's why,
when I went to visit friends' houses when I was younger,
if their rooms were messy,
I would sometimes find myself tidying up without even thinking.
They would say "thank you,"
but I'm sure they probably didn't feel too great about it... haha

But it's not quite the same as being
a neat freak, maybe it's more like being meticulous...
When my field of vision is clear,
I get the feeling that my mind is being organized as well.
A tidy state makes me feel secure.
That's how it feels.
I vacuum every day,
and put things back where they belong.
I put things in boxes so they can't be seen,
using clever ways to hide them.
But I find it hard to throw things away,
and in reality, the places you can't see
are often a bit cluttered. haha

As for my child's toys,
I let them spread them out as much as they want when they play.
Sometimes they build a base with LEGOs,
or line up little figures,
and there are days when it covers the whole floor.
But,
once they're done playing, we tidy it up that same day.

However,
sometimes they say, "I want to keep this!" regarding creations they worked hard on with LEGOs,
or their favorite crafts.
In those cases,
I move them to the corner of the room,
and leave them there until my child is satisfied.
While I do have a desire to tidy everything up completely,
for my child,
these are "things that are important right now."aren't they.
So,
I try to spend my time
valuing not just my own comfort,
but also my child's feelings.

Thinking about it as I write this,
is this just me beinga bit too particular?
Could this bea classic case of perfectionism??
I find myself wondering,
what do you think?
It was supposed to be a post about "healing," but
it went in a bit of a strange direction... lol
But for me, a tidy space isn't just "clean and pleasant";
it's a place that
calms my heart.
So, I think maybe this is my own way of finding "healing" too🌷 lol
