🎧 [Event Entry] My experience participating in Mori-chan's debut song contest [Musicful]
Since Mori-chan's debut song contest is being held on Musicful, I will be participating with this song.
This is the project I am participating in this time ☝️.
The title of my entry is "Your Sound".
What should I have her sing?
The theme is Mori-chan's debut song.
Apparently, Mori-chan is making her debut as a virtual singer! (I want to debut too!)
Since this is a song for Mori-chan to sing, I can't just make it however I want like I usually do 😲.
I started by thinking about what I want Mori-chan to sing.
Mori-chan is a Musicful character.

Rather than talking about Mori-chan herself, it seems more fitting to have a song that receives and sings the sounds of the people who gather at Musicful.
From there,
Let me hear your sound
Music wraps around the world
Connecting you and me
I decided on this for the chorus.
If I make it too much of a cheering song for contest participants, it will be hard to listen to after the project ends. On the other hand, I don't want it to be a self-introduction song packed with Mori-chan's lore.
It should be something that can be listened to as a normal song, but feels just right when Mori-chan sings it.
It seemed better to aim for "a song I really want Mori-chan to sing" rather than "a song only Mori-chan can sing".
This is my first time using Musicful.
I registered an account and had 30 credits on hand.
I wasn't sure how many times I could generate with these 30 credits.
Usually, I would try making it first, listen to it, and then fix the lyrics or style. As I repeat that, the number of prototypes keeps increasing.
This time, there was a possibility I couldn't do that.
Therefore, I decided to solidify the lyrics and style to some extent before generating.
Thinking about a style that suits Mori-chan
For the musical style, I based it on a bright Japanese dream-pop/indie-pop sound. I specified a tempo of 116 BPM.
In the Style field, I wrote things like acoustic guitar, clean electric guitar arpeggios, warm strings, bass, and light live drums.
I wanted a sound with a bit of depth, so I also included the words "light shoegaze textures".
I didn't fine-tune the actual sound here.
I just wrote that in the Style field and left it to how Musicful interprets it.
I was also a bit hesitant about whether to include Celtic elements.
It probably fits Mori-chan's nature-inspired atmosphere. However, if I push it too much, it might give off a strong Celtic fantasy impression.
So,
subtle Celtic-inspired colours
delicate Celtic harp
restrained fiddle phrases
I wrote this.
Subtle, delicate, restrained.
I don't want it to be Celtic music, so I just lined up words that sound like I want it to be understated.
I don't want her to shout in the chorus
Another thing I decided was not to have her sing too strongly in the chorus.
When creating songs with AI, the exciting chorus parts can sometimes lean toward high pitches or high volume. But considering Mori-chan's atmosphere, it wouldn't be right for her to suddenly start shouting in the chorus.
As for the vocals,
gentle
clear
controlled female lead vocals
comfortable mid-register
and so on were included in the Style.
The intention was to have her sing gently, with clear enunciation, and in a comfortable vocal range.
It's not that I didn't want the chorus to be exciting, but I wanted it to expand in a way other than just belting out the notes. I wrote it hoping that Musicful would pick up on those nuances.
And then, generation.
I reviewed the lyrics and Style one last time, and pressed the generate button, deciding this was the one.
My credits went from 30 to 0 😭
And so, "Your Sound" was completed.
It ends with,
With your sound and my sound
a single line to finish it off.
"Your Sound" is the song I wanted Mori-chan to sing.
