Chronicles of Belaguald - Prologue
...Well then, where shall I begin?
The battle at the fortress of Morend. The little adventures of the fairies. The mysterious journey of the traveling performers. How about the demon cave of Gangax, the magic soldiers, and the warriors? Everything is a story that connects to the tale of the dragon's child. Oh, yes, yes, this would be good. The story of the goblin and the one who runs through the fields. It is just the right story to get to know this world.
Any story will do. It would be faster if you took a peek once. You will understand the world of Belaguald a little better.
...Who is a Strider?
...How do the fairies and the weak survive?
...How about a fierce tale of Gangax?
...Of course, there are also evil wizards. But there is also the courage to stand up to them.
...Or perhaps you prefer a story about fighting dragons?
...Then, how about unraveling it from the map? Wouldn't that make it easier to enter the world of Belaguald?
...For those who have understood Belaguald to some extent, there is also a simple map. How about it? Are you excited about the adventures of the dragon's child?
There is also this kind of arrangement.
Most of them are self-contained stories or short episodes divided into small parts. Currently, this magazine is being updated from time to time. They are short, so how about it if you feel like it?
Also, there is something called a character directory!
There is some mischief from my proxy, but it should be just right for getting to know Belaguald through its people. It also contains detailed explanations of races and such that are not even depicted in the stories.
It is currently paused, but this is also being updated irregularly from time to time.
…Oh, by the look of it, I suppose you don't believe me. You think it's just a fantasy?
Then, I suppose you are also unaware of the history that this world has perished three times over...
It is a pity, for imagination is reality. Imagination is, in fact, the world itself.
For instance, you all assume that the world will continue just as it is.
That there is only one reality.
Or perhaps,
I cannot become anything. I cannot escape this narrow world. The world is full of deception. Effort is not rewarded. Dreams do not come true. The world does not accept me.
...Are you not thinking things like that?
Yes, that is exactly right.
The world is just as you think it is.
But, what if you were to think that it is not so, that you will not accept such a world? If there is even the slightest room to think that way, and if you are prepared to accept all possibilities, if there is even the smallest room for such thought,
...How about it?
Would you mind humoring me and listening to my story for a little while?
Oh, oh, don't get the wrong idea.
What I am about to tell you is the truth. And because it is the truth, the characters who color this story will suffer, be hurt, be betrayed, and be beaten down.
Perhaps this story may not feature the beautiful women, cute girls, overwhelming strength, or convenient abilities and magic that you might desire.
...Well, maybe there might be a little bit of that.
Regardless, just like in this world, there may be those tormented by lethargy, an unfair system, and people who are oppressed. There may be violence, and people suffering from discrimination and prejudice.
Even so, just like in this world, there are beautiful plains, vast and overwhelming wildernesses, deep oceans, clear blue skies, and heroes who fight with all their might. There are heroes who face and continue to fight against all the unreasonable existences that narrow the world, degrade it for their own selfish convenience, hurt it, and trample upon it.
How about it? Wouldn't you like to hear such a story?
That the world exists only here? That civilization belongs only to humans? That is truly foolish.
Belagard exists. It truly exists. Whether you believe it or not.
...My name is Ghee. Historian, wizard, astrologer, rebel, traitor—I have had countless others. From honorable titles to unmerited infamy. Across time that cannot be fully told, I have had countless names.
But you may call me whatever you like. It does not matter what you call me. What is important is the story. The story itself is magic...
My name is Ghee. I am a guide to Bellagoald and a storyteller of the heroes' tales.
