How long will we keep sending these? Well, forever, of course.

Today was a friend's birthday.

I sent a "Happy Birthday" message on LINE.
It's such a simple thing,
yet somehow, every year, it warms my heart just a little.

I've been exchanging "Happy Birthday" messages
with a friend from middle school for many years now.

"I wonder how long we'll keep sending these!"
We've even laughed about it before.

But you know,
even when we're old ladies,
wouldn't it be wonderful if we could still say,
"Happy Birthday! Hey, how are you?" to each other?

We don't need special gifts.
We don't need grand celebrations.

Congratulations on being alive and well.
If I can just tell you that I thought of you again this year, that's enough.

"I'm so glad you're in my life."

Once a year,
isn't it nice to have a day where we can say that feeling with confidence?

That's why I'm sure I'll keep sending them,
even when I'm an old lady.

Saying, "Happy Birthday."

And, thank you for being alive.
