An exhibition overflowing with the playfulness and curiosity of Picasso x Paul Smith
I went to the Picasso x Paul Smith collaboration exhibition,
[Picasso meets Paul Smith: An Adventure into Playfulness]
(currently being held at The National Art Center, Tokyo until September 21, 2026).

"Never forget to have a playful heart💓"
"Keep having a spirit of inquiry no matter how old you get✨"
It was a very fun exhibition
where you could receive such messages.

Picasso created 150,000 works before he passed away at 91,
a number that apparently even holds a Guinness World Record.
You could see that he was always repeating his explorations and experiments.
It is said that he even painted hundreds of works in his late 80s and at 90!
I was moved by his works, which overflowed with an energy you wouldn't expect from a 90-year-old.

After I got home, I was inspired by Picasso's playfulness,
so I stuck on some beads.
Making a peacock🦚

And then I had fun making my cat,
Mimi, out of cardboard😽

I learned from the works in the exhibition that around the age of 80,
Picasso would make things out of cardboard like crafts for a single theme,
and try them out over and over again.
Imagining Picasso acting like a child, exploring while
making many things out of cardboard,
made me feel warm and amused.
Combined with Paul Smith's playfulness and sense of style,
this is a very fun exhibition
where you can experience Picasso from a different perspective than usual.
Highly recommended!
