Ayame Academy ── Episode 1: "The Room of Colors"
The previous story
The air on the morning of the new semester is a little clearer than usual.
In the dormitory entrance hall, colorful girls were swarming in front of the large bulletin board.
The newly posted paper listed the new room assignments. It is the noisiest morning of the year at this academy.
“Wow, look, look! I’m in Room 101!”
The first to speak up was Ruberia, who wore red. Her high ponytail caught the morning sun coming through the window, swaying as if it were on fire.
“...You have quite a voice for so early in the morning.”
The one who muttered that with a look of exasperation was Mintia, who wore blue-green. Beneath her sleek black bob, her cool eyes stared at a point on the paper—and then, she froze.
“Wait a minute. Room 101 is me.”
“Oh. Then we’re roommates! Yay, nice to meet you!”
After being slapped on the back with a thud, Mintia coughed slightly. Red and blue-green. Colors that are exactly opposite on the color wheel. Thinking of the year ahead, she gently placed a hand on her forehead.
A little further away,
“Yay! Look, I’m in the room right in front of Majeria!”
Limone, who wore yellow-green, jumped up and down,
“Of course you are. The two leads have to be side-by-side, right?”
Majeria, who wore reddish-purple, brushed back her hair with a confident smile.
Behind her, Roselia, who wore pink, was already tearing up.
“I’m with Verderia-chan... I’m so happy, I feel like I’m going to cry...”
“Nothing has even started yet.”
Verderia, who wore green, smiled gently and patted her on the head.
At the edge of the bulletin board, a step away from the crowd, Noirlea, who wore black, glanced at the paper once and turned on her heel while stroking the throat of the cat on her shoulder. Her room was a triple room with White and Gray. Without saying a word, she just walked away quietly.
Lively colors and quiet colors alike headed toward their rooms with their own strides. A new year was just about to begin.
Room 101
The moment she opened the door, Ruberia threw her luggage aside and ran to the window.
“Wow, the view is great here! You can see the whole playground!”

Her bag rolled onto the floor, her cheering flag was tossed onto the bed, and one of her shoes flew into the corner with a pop. In just one minute, half the space was swallowed by a red storm.
“...Hey.”
A cold voice called out to her back. When she turned around, Mintia was neatly arranging every single one of her belongings. The top of her desk was as straight as if measured with a ruler. The difference in color was already clearly visible on the floor of the room.
“Keep the mess to your half only.”
“Oh, ah, sorry.”
“Also, that flag. Are you going to wave that every day?”
“Of course! I can’t miss my morning cheering!”
Mintia silently opened the window a little. A refreshing breeze cooled the red storm just a little.
—Honestly, I don’t think we’ll get along. But since we’re so opposite, it’s almost refreshing. Realizing she was thinking that, she let out a small sigh.
Maybe this year will be noisy, but not bad.
Room 102
That room was terribly quiet.
Orangeria, who wore orange, stood by the door, fidgeting while holding her luggage. Her roommate had already arrived and was reading a book by the window. Pale blue-silver hair, round glasses, a moon bookmark. The girl who wore blue—Blumeria.
“U-um... nice to meet you starting today.”
When she bowed, Blumeria looked up from her book and gave a small, sharp nod.
“...Yeah. Nice to meet you.”
After that, the conversation ceased.
Orangeria cautiously unpacked her luggage while glancing at the other girl’s hands. She was reading a botanical encyclopedia. And it was the out-of-print one she had been looking for for a long time.
“Um, that...”
Her voice slipped out, and she quickly covered her mouth. But Blumeria didn’t look annoyed at all and tilted the book slightly toward her.
“...Do you like it?”
“I-I love it...!”
Without either of them saying who started it, they both ended up peering into the book. Orange and blue—even though they were supposed to be opposite colors, their distance suddenly closed on the same page. The light from outside the window illuminated the two colors softly.
Even with few words, the atmosphere in this room felt the most comfortable, the fastest.
Night.
The dormitory before lights out was turning off its window lights one by one. At the small desk in Room 102, Blumeria spread out her notebook and picked up a glass pen. The ink color was, of course, blue.
I’ll write down the colors I saw today before I forget them.
The first person—I’ll go with that girl, after all.
The red girl who was laughing so loudly first thing in the morning.
── Color Encyclopedia ──
Ruberia (Red)
A girl like the academy’s flame, hotter than the sun.
She has a loud voice, is straightforward, and can’t leave someone in trouble alone.
She will probably clash with her roommate Mintia every day.
But clashing isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
・Likes: Sunsets, cheering, spicy food
・Dislikes: Sitting still
・Note: Probably the girl who will run to help someone the fastest.

Blumeria gently put down her pen.
If she turned the page, the white that hadn’t been written on yet continued.
Tomorrow, too, someone will laugh, someone will clash, and someone and someone else will get a little closer.
I’ll write all of that down here.
Because in this academy, there are still sixteen colors’ worth of stories waiting.
On this account, I write about things I find in my daily life,
as well as AI illustrations and novels.
I would be happy if you read whatever interests you.
