This is what the song "The Good Life" is like♪

The other day, in an article titled "Songs I'd play at my own funeral" (lol), the song I mentioned (in the illustration section) was "The Good Life".

I received several comments like this (sorry...), so since it's such a wonderful song, I'd like to introduce it here. You might not recognize the title, but once you listen to it, you might think, "Oh, it's this one..." It was originally a French chanson


"La belle vie (The Beautiful Life)". It was composed by Sacha Distel
for the film "Seven Capital Sins" (directed by Roger Vadim) (lyrics by Jean Broussolle).

This song was translated into English in '63 as "The Good Life", and became a huge hit when Tony Bennett sang it. And then it became a standard... There are so many versions, and many great performances and vocal renditions, but first, how about this very fun one?

Next is a duo that captures the ennui of the lyrics. When I read the translations, the nuances between the French version and the American version were a little (or rather, quite...?) different, and personally, I prefer the French version, but regardless, both sing of the bitterness of life, or perhaps the beautiful yet hollow and fleeting days. People sometimes misunderstand it because of the title, but it's not a song that says, "Long live beautiful days, long live life!!" (The link below is piano and sax, so there are no vocals).
