The 'Okinawa Cornerstone of Peace Name Reading Gathering,' where the names of over 240,000 people who died in the Battle of Okinawa and other events are read aloud, has begun at the Yomitan Village Cultural Center.
Governor Denny Tamaki is performing the first reading.
Approximately 1,500 people will participate.
It will continue until the Memorial Day on 2022.06.23.

Toward the 77th Okinawa Memorial Day, we will spend 11 days reading the names of the 241,632 people inscribed on the 'Cornerstone of Peace'.

The 'Cornerstone of Peace' is inscribed with the names of civilians, soldiers, and military employees who died in the Battle of Okinawa and other events, regardless of nationality.
