"The original work for the NHK TV drama, now available in a complete edition!
This masterpiece, which led to the world 'discovering' manga artist Jiro Taniguchi—a recipient of the French Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters—is now available as a complete edition, featuring all episodes for the first time and restored color pages!"
This work was adapted into a TV drama for the first time on NHK BS4K8K from April 2020 to March 2021 and is currently being broadcast to great acclaim! (Starring: Arata Iura, Tomoko Tabata)
This complete edition has the following three major features.
★Published in B5 size for the first time. It uses a 'codex binding' that allows the book to open completely flat to the spine, allowing readers to fully enjoy the intricate artwork (color pages are also perfectly reproduced).
★Includes the special episode of 'The Walking Man' drawn for the 'TOKYO CITY GUIDE 2011' published by LOUIS VUITTON in 2011, translated into Japanese for the first time and included in a book for the first time worldwide.
★Includes a newly written contribution by film director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
It has been crafted into a beautiful and profound book that allows you to leisurely enjoy the surprisingly detailed original manuscripts.
Please enjoy this world of work that connects to 'The Solitary Gourmet' (Original story: Masayuki Kusumi).
[Recommended information from the editor]
There is a world that becomes visible by walking through streets, lands, and landscapes, and observing them...
This complete edition of the ambitious work that challenged how to express that sensation in manga is now available to coincide with the TV drama adaptation!
For this edition, all manuscripts were re-scanned using the latest technology, and we were meticulous about the paper and output screen frequency. With this first large-format B5 publication, I believe we can deliver new discoveries and lingering impressions even to those who have read previous editions.
We aimed for a book that could rival the 4K8K broadcast TV drama.
Please enjoy this supreme manga expression that has not faded even 30 years after its debut."

'The Walking Man' was redrawn because the first version I drew looked too much like Yoshiharu Tsuge [1937- ]. When I was 22 or 23, I wanted to draw things like the manga in 'Garo', and in fact, I took my work to the Garo editorial department several times, but they were all rejected. At the time, the influence of Kazuhiko Miyaya [1945-2022], who was drawing for 'COM', and Yoshiharu Tsuge [of 'Garo'] was significant.' p.35"
