It turns out 'fast' doesn't mean 'sloppy.' What's the secret of the 'efficient' people in nursing care?
When you work in nursing care, there's always that one person who is so fast you think,
'Wait, they're already done!?'
right?
When I was just starting out, I'll be honest, I sometimes wondered about those people,
thinking, 'Are they just being sloppy?' or 'Are they actually paying attention?'
Sure, some people were sloppy.
But that wasn't the case for everyone.
✅ Not sloppy. If anything, they are 'efficient'
When you watch how efficient people move, you have those moments where you realize,
'They are really looking after the resident,'
'Their communication is gentle,'
'There is no wasted movement in what they do.'
On the other hand, as for me,
'I wander around worrying about the steps...'
'I say hello, but then I forget what I'm supposed to do next and have to go back...'
things like that happen. 💦
Honestly, I'm the type who is slow at work. 😅
✅ 'Capable' people use subtle tricks
It suddenly occurred to me that
people who are fast at their jobs are good at subtracting unnecessary tasks.
They have strong observation skills.
They are good at organizing procedures.
They are able to provide 'subtractive care' without overexerting themselves.
That's the kind of people they are.
✅ Rather than thinking 'I can't be like them'
I'm clumsy and it takes me time, so sometimes I get down on myself, thinking, 'I'm just not like them.'
But,
the goal isn't just to be fast,
and I think it's fine to learn little by little while holding onto the desire to 'do things carefully.'
Even now, every time I see someone fast, I feel a mix of respect and mystery... haha.
I'm doing my best at work today, too.
📝 Afterword
Don't you have someone at your workplace too who makes you wonder,
'How are they so fast...?'
It's easy to feel impatient when you see a style different from your own, but I want to avoid comparing myself too much and just keep going at my own pace. 😊
🔸 If this article made you think, 'I totally get that!',
just a like or a share would be a huge encouragement. 😊
If you'd like, I'd be happy if you could leave a tip to help me continue my activities. 🍀
