The Kojiki Might Be the Oldest Science Book: 'Kojiki x Science: An Introduction to Torahiko Terada' Event
The Kojiki is a book of mythology.
If you say that, people might tell you, 'That is the exact opposite of science.'
But is that really the case?
People in the past also lived their lives looking up at the sky, feeling the wind, and being amazed by rain and thunder.
How did the world begin?
Why are there day and night?
Why are people born and why do they die?
Mythology was born from the attempt to answer those questions.
On the other hand, science also begins with the same questions.
Torahiko Terada was a scientist who valued the 'sense of wonder' above all else.
Falling apples, singing insects, earthquakes, and even familiar phenomena that no one else paid attention to were, for Torahiko Terada, questions posed by nature.
In fact, Torahiko Terada wrote an essay titled 'Mythology and Geophysics.'
In it, Terada explored the possibility that memories of natural phenomena such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions are preserved within the Kojiki and myths and legends passed down in various regions.
Rather than dismissing myths as mere fabrications, he looked at them from the perspective that they might contain the experiences and memories of people who continuously observed nature.
On Saturday, June 27th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will hold 'Kojiki x Science: An Introduction to Torahiko Terada' by Koneido at fermi cafe.
This lecture is the first in the 10-part 'Kojiki x Science' series, which aims to decipher the Kojiki.
You don't need to know the Kojiki.
You don't need to be good at science.
Mythology and science.
I believe this will be a time to realize that these two worlds, which seem far apart at first glance, actually begin with the same 'Why?'
Using the perspective left behind by Torahiko Terada as a clue, why not join us in re-reading the first page of the Kojiki?
