The act of distinguishing and evaluating things (discrimination) is always accompanied by conflict arising from emotions, views, and values.
When this escalates, it leads to discord in human relationships, and eventually to catastrophic results such as terrorism and war.
In an internet society where anyone can easily express their opinions, these harmful effects are becoming increasingly significant.
Buddhism is said to teach 'non-discrimination,' but the path from a reality filled with 'discrimination' to the ideal of 'non-discrimination' seems to be shrouded in deep fog.
What we are introducing this time is a teaching that may sound unfamiliar: 'Aranavibhanga' (non-contentious discrimination).
This teaching, recorded in the early scriptures, provides a concrete prescription for resolving the harmful effects of discrimination. Let's study it together.
