[Poem] Autumn Harvest Festival

Across the fields where the autumn wind blows,
golden light spreads softly.

"Hey, is it harvest time again?"

A pumpkin stands by with a big, smug look on its face!

"I've got a great color again this year, don't I? I'm delicious whether roasted or boiled."

Acting like a big shot in the middle of the field as if to say just that.

Right next to it,
a sweet potato pops right up!

"Look at this sheen. I'm so
sweet that I'm super popular with the kids!"

It says, looking proud of itself, but
when you pull it, the dirt comes tumbling down with it!

"Wait a second! Appearing with dirt on me is
my style!" it says.

But that dirt-covered look is also
so autumn-like and wonderful.

Suddenly,
a shiitake mushroom peeks out.

"Today, I'm winning with my aroma!
Whether roasted or boiled, I release a wonderful scent!"

It says, letting a hint of its aroma ride on the wind.

But, the moment it hits the frying pan,
the shiitake is surprised, saying, "Hey, it's hot!?"
Even so, while being sizzled,

"I'm the king of aroma!"
it doesn't forget its pride.

Beside it, a carrot is quietly blushing.
"I'm essential for curry and stew, too, but..."

It's a bit modest, but its presence is outstanding.
Casually asserting itself at the edge of the field.

The daikon radish isn't losing either!
"Don't underestimate me just because I'm the plain type?
When you put me in oden, I'm the best!"

Saying things like that,
it waits nervously for the moment it gets harvested.

The autumn vegetables are all full of personality and lively!
In a field where unique friends gather,
today is a harvest festival filled with endless laughter.

Both stomach and heart are warmly healed by the bounty of autumn

and finally, everyone says a grateful "Itadakimasu!"

And then one last word, "Gochisosama!"

Afterword I tried to express the joy of the autumn harvest 🎃🍁🍄🌰 The "Shuka" in Shuka-sai seems to be a play on the phrase "Shall we do something!" (Nanika shiyou ka!)
