Is English a Spell...? The School Chime Sounded Like 'Gibberish'... How to Break Free from That
When I first started learning English, the school chime sounded like nothing but 'gibberish' to me.
Hello! Today, I would like to talk about the time when I had just started studying English.
To sum it up,at first, as I mentioned, it was truly gibberishto me.
■ I couldn't even understand 'I am a girl'
When I learned the sentence 'I am a girl' in junior high school English class, I thought to myself,
'Huh... "I am a girl"...? What is that? Why do I have to put an "a" in there?'
Both the grammar and the pronunciation felt like a spell, and I truly didn't understand what it meant.
■ The feeling of being left behind
I didn't know what or how to memorize things, and I was completely lost.
There were many times when I thought, 'Maybe I'm just not cut out for this.'
I had heard that it was difficult for Japanese people, who speak a language with a completely different linguistic system, to speak English, so I didn't really understand why I had to study it.
■ 'Gibberish' is the starting point for growth
Now that I am able to participate in international settings and use English on a daily basis, what I needed to get here wasn't 'talent' or 'anything special,' but a 'mindset' to keep going and enjoy the process.
Everyone starts out with gibberish.
Not understanding is a sign ofpotential for growththat you will understand in the future.
■ Summary: Your 'I don't understand' will definitely change
If I could say something to my past self, I would say this:
'It's okay. There is a path waiting for you beyond that "gibberish."'
If you are struggling with English right now, that isproof that you are learning!
In this Note, I will share information and experiences that can encourage you. The important thing is to enjoy the time you spend studying English! As you continue to enjoy it, your understanding will deepen little by little, and before you know it, you will find yourself enjoying communication in English.
I hope you all have a wonderful day.
