[Day 30] After 30 days, I realized what I really want to create
This note is a record of a tech-illiterate hairdresser challenging themselves to build an app called "Hair Medication Notebook" in 260 days.
I want to create a system where people can carry their hair history on their smartphones so it doesn't disappear when they move or change stylists. That was the desire with which I started this project.
For more details, please see the first episode below.
Yesterday, I wrote about realizing my true feelings that "I would be in trouble if my wish came true" at a subconscious seminar.
Today, what I realized after 30 days.
30 days have passed
30 days have passed.
A month ago, I declared, "I'm going to make a Hair Medication Notebook!"
But honestly, I haven't made any progress at all 😂
I haven't written any code. The design isn't decided either. Nothing has taken shape.
But these 30 days were not wasted.
Because...
What I thought at first
On the first day, I wrote this:
"I want to create a system where people can carry their hair history on their smartphones so it doesn't disappear when they move or change stylists."
That was the reason I wanted to create it.
Medical records aren't passed on. Information disappears. I want to solve that inconvenience.
That's what I thought.
The real problem isn't the loss of information.
But after thinking for 30 days, I realized something.
The real problem isn't that information disappears.
The real problem is,
that customers don't really understand their own hair.
Even when they say 'the same as last time,' they don't remember what was done last time.
They don't know what their hair needs.
That's why they leave it up to the hairdresser.
What I really want to create
What I really want to create is,
a tool that allows customers to face their own hair.
And a tool that gives peace of mind to both the hairdresser and the customer.
Not just a simple medical record,
- Knowing the condition of your hair - Being able to record what was done - Knowing what is needed next - Being able to think about it together with the hairdresser
A tool like that.
'Hair Medication Notebook'
That's what the name implies, too.
Just like a medication notebook, you carry it yourself and manage it yourself.
Not just for hairstylists, and not just for customers, but "for both"
At first, I thought of it as a "convenient tool for hairstylists."
Making chart management easier. Making handovers smoother.
But it's not just that.
This is also for the customers.
Customers can understand their own hair. They can communicate properly with their hairstylist. They can receive treatments with peace of mind.
And then I realized.
This is a tool for both hairstylists and customers.
It allows customers to take an active role in their hair care, and hairstylists to support them in that.
It's not a one-way street, but a relationship built together.
A tool to make that a reality.
What changed in 30 days
Development hasn't progressed.
But,
the essence of what I want to create has become clear.
Not what to create, but why I am creating it.
Who I am creating it for.
That has become clear.
What to do from here
Giving it shape starts now.
But, I have established a core.
A tool that allows customers to face their own hair, and provides peace of mind for both the hairdresser and the customer.
I will create this.
Without rushing, but without giving up.
I will move forward one step at a time.
Thank you for these 30 days.
I look forward to the next 30 days as well.
Thank you for reading until the end today.
