In this post, I will explain how to clean a trackball mouse. Since I started using a trackball mouse, my work efficiency has skyrocketed. I hope this reaches those who haven't used one yet.

Things to prepare

• Crepolimate

• Anhydrous ethanol

• A stick with a non-pointed tip (cotton swabs, etc. are also acceptable)

• Cloth (eyeglass cleaning cloth, etc.)

• Rubber gloves

Use a stick with a non-pointed tip when removing the ball from the mouse body. Be careful, as a pointed tip can damage your hands, the mouse body, or the ball. I use disposable chopsticks from "Hotto Motto" as a ball removal stick.

Let's actually clean it

1. Remove the ball

1. Place the cloth over the removal hole

2. Push the stick in to remove the ball

You can remove it without applying much force. Be careful, as applying too much force or using a stick with a sharp tip can lead to injury or damage to the mouse. (It varies by mouse, so be careful!)

2. Polish the ball

Apply Crepolimate to the cloth and polish the ball. If it becomes uneven, it will feel strange when operating, so try to keep it as even as possible. Crepolimate will get on your skin, so if you are concerned, it is a good idea to use rubber gloves.

3. Let it dry

After polishing, let it dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Dry it in a stable place where it won't roll away. I recommend placing it on top of two parallel disposable chopsticks to dry. Never use a tissue! Tissue fibers will stick to it. If you have a mechanical keyboard with a standard profile, the top of the keycaps is stable, so that is recommended.

4. Cleaning the mouse body

Wipe the mouse with a cloth dampened with anhydrous ethanol. Use a different cloth than the one used to polish the ball.

5. Reattaching to the mouse

After it dries, reattach it to the mouse.
And that completes the cleaning.

Cleaning frequency

• About every 2 weeks is ideal

I think it varies depending on usage frequency and environment. If it doesn't bother you, it might be okay to go a bit longer. However, this assumes your hands are clean. Make sure to sanitize your hands thoroughly as well.

These two are my recommendations.The MX ERGO Sis expensive, but its performance and quality justify the price, so I recommend it for those who want to make a serious purchase.The M575Shas a good balance of performance and cost, so I recommend it for trackball mouse beginners. (It's great because you can take the ball out even without a removal tool.)

Please be aware that there are many imitations of these two models on the market.Perixx replacement balls are also recommended. I've bought about four of them...

In conclusion

Cleaning a trackball mouse takes a little bit of effort. In return, it makes you feel like, 'I want to use this for a long time!' I would be happy if this reaches those who are not yet using a trackball mouse.
