[Travelogue] A Fun Trip for Under 100,000 Yen!! Workation in Okinawa🌴 | Final Report

Hello, this is Emu.
Thank you for reading this article!

It was a fulfilling Uchina time😊
I recently went on a workation to Okinawa from June 16th to the 25th. This time, I am delivering the final report, including the results of the tasks I set for myself in advance.
I have compiled the articles I posted during my workation into a magazine. I would be happy if you could read them together.

How much did the trip cost?

Airfare: 25,840 yen (round trip/insurance/including extra baggage)
Accommodation: 34,078 yen (for 9 nights)
Train: 3,384 yen
Yui Rail: 320 yen
Bus: 6,880 yen
Food and drink: 28,647 yen
Total: 99,149 yen

I managed to keep it just under 100,000 yen😙
The airline was Peach. The price includes round-trip, travel insurance, and additional baggage weight fees. For accommodation, I used a dormitory hotel in Naha City only for the first night. I stayed in a dormitory at La'gent Hotel Okinawa Chatan for 8 nights. Other travel expenses are as listed above. Food and drink costs were about 950 yen per meal on a daily basis. I think I managed to keep it down.

Storing items used frequently

I become a minimalist when I travel😊
I was able to pass through airport security smoothly and move around lightly when going out. I left my change of clothes and toiletries at the hotel when I went out. Since I planned to do laundry, I brought 3 days' worth of clothes. I didn't change clothes for about 5 days, so 2 days' worth might have been enough. I always tend to bring too much.
Trading results from 6/16-25

My earnings during the workation were +87,662 yen😉
After deducting travel expenses, it was a deficit of 11,487 yen. I regret my careless mistakes.
Putting 'Travel and FX' into practice. One of the real thrills of FX. You can earn money while traveling. It's a skill I spent over 10 years mastering, often feeling like I was coughing up blood. I thought I should make use of it. I wrote a rough explanation in each article, so I would be happy if you read them.
Did I achieve the goals I set?

To give you the conclusion first, I was able to achieve them😉
Regular work
Writing note articles
Earning travel expenses through FX
Touring by bus
Enjoying Okinawan cuisine
I was able to achieve all of these while having fun.
✅Regular work
Since I also have client work, it's difficult to travel if on-site work comes up. Depending on the combination of tasks, it seems feasible. I received a PC repair request during my workation, but that was obviously impossible... I ended up handling it on my way home (lol).

Other guests besides me were also working. Everyone seems to be enjoying the nomad life.

Aeon Mall is just great, isn't it?🤤
Aeon Mall Okinawa Rycom is one of the largest shopping malls in Okinawa. With over 220 specialty stores, you won't get bored even if you stay all day. The food court was almost full during lunchtime, but you can find seats after that. I brought my HP Probook laptop.
✅Writing note articles

I was able to write my daily posts perfectly😉
Just being in a different place with a different atmosphere boosted my motivation. My usual posts go up at 7 AM every morning, but I changed it to 9 PM during my workation. I managed to stick to a style of posting about what I experienced and felt that day before I forgot it.
✅Earning travel expenses through FX

A sketchy project, or rather, a challenge😅
I couldn't pay for the entire trip, but I was able to earn a portion of my travel expenses using just one smartphone (Galaxy S25). I didn't want a stomachache while traveling, but I think I was able to trade effectively.
✅Traveling by bus

Driving around a travel destination in a rental car is nice, but public transportation was also fun. The scenery flowing past the bus window and the slowly passing 'Uchina-time' (Okinawan time) were a special experience.
✅Enjoying Okinawan cuisine

At this point, I don't mind if it's not Okinawan food😋
I live on one meal a day. I have an energy drink in the morning and enjoy a full dinner. I tried to choose Okinawan food and tourist-style food as much as possible. Every dish was delicious! The most expensive one was the rib steak I had on the second day. (It was a whopping 8,100 yen!)
I'm not good at deciding what to eat. If I were to stay for a long time, I'd probably go with Okinawa soba and abura miso rice balls. I'm fine with eating the same food every day!

It seems A&W is called "Enda"🫢💬
Ru-chan taught me that. Because the pronunciation is 'A and W'. If you pronounce it coolly, it's Enda. If you say Enda, Whitney Hou... never mind. (It's a very good song)
And, the final day of the workation

It really is hard to leave...🥲
On the final day, just like the day before the workation, I couldn't sleep because I was in a strange mood. I enjoyed a morning walk, worked in the common space, wrote notes while lounging in bed, and spent my time feeling the 'Uchina time' until the very end.
✅ Spending the night at Narita Airport

I slept on a bench at Narita Airport😊
I arrived at Narita Airport around 11 PM, and there were no trains to get to the nearest station. So, it was my first time sleeping at the airport in a while. Other travelers waiting were also sleeping there.
《🌴Behind the Scenes🌴》
Actually, I had work on-site the next day. I stopped by on my way back and went home after finishing my work. I got home after 3 PM. I went straight to bed!!
Recommended for people like this
People with initiative
People who can make time for themselves
People who work for companies where it's easy to take paid leave
People who long for a nomadic lifestyle
Even those who can make time for themselves, are you actually finding yourself with time to spare? If so, I really wanted to encourage you to give it a try.
I don't think you can imagine how good a nomadic lifestyle is just by having it explained to you. You can make it happen for about 100,000 yen, and there should be a lot to gain from the extraordinary experience.
Finally

It's more like a mini-relocation than a trip, isn't it?☺️
I was able to literally balance work and vacation, and I spent a very fulfilling time. I'm also happy that I was able to achieve the goals I set...
I moved around a lot when I was a salaryman. I realized once again that it might actually be a good thing. I had many anxieties, such as whether I could get used to new people and places, or if I would have any trouble with daily life, but home is where you make it. For a short period, it's a great way to change your mood and approach your work.
This concludes the Okinawa report.
Thank you so much!
Where should I go next...
