The Shock of the ABC Song
Hello everyone!
Are you familiar with the ABC song?
I'm sure you've probably sung it or heard it at least once.
That song sung to the melody of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
♪A-B-C-D-E-F-G♪
is how it goes.
(It's hard to express in writing, haha)
You can learn English through videos in the familiar Kodomo Challenge, but when I listened to the song, I felt a sense of "Huh? Something's different!" discomfort.
♪H-I-J-K-L-M-N (pause) O-P-Q-R-S-T-U♪
In my memory, it was something like this.
However, the song played in Kodomo Challenge is,
♪H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P (pause) Q-R-S-T-U-V♪
The pause position has changed!
There are changes after that too, but the LMNOP part is completely different!
LMN -> L-M-N
where each letter was pronounced clearly,
LMNOP -> Elemeno-P
is now pronounced all at once in a flowing manner!
(I'm not sure if that pronunciation is correct, haha)
I can't hide my surprise that even things like this change as times change!
I was curious, so I looked it up and found an easy-to-understand explanation here.
↑L-M-N version
↑Elemeno-P version
Which one are you more familiar with? Please take a listen if you'd like!
When you listen closely, they are completely different!
It felt strange at first, but it's mysterious how it feels more natural every time I hear it!
Looking at the history of the ABC song, it seems that what was for memorization in the past has evolved into a more meaningful song!
Since children will have more and more opportunities to encounter English in the future, practical study is something I am very happy about as a parent!
So, this time,
it was a story about how both parent and child learned from Kodomo Challenge!
Thank you for watching!
