Electone Performance Video Notes February 2022 Issue (Featuring Kana Koike)

■Kana Koike appears at the Miyaji Music Petit Stage!

On Sunday, February 27, 2022, the "Kana Koike Petit Stage" was held as part of the "Electone Festival" event taking place at Miyaji Music Koganei Center (Tokyo).

Since I would finally be able to hear Kana Koike (hereinafter referred to as Kana) perform live on the Electone, I signed up immediately after the event was announced. It seemed quite popular, and by early February, it was already on a waiting list.

The venue was filled mainly with families who are learning or planning to learn the Electone (there were a few of us who just listen and watch), and Kana appeared from the back of the venue, looking a bit nervous. Although I had seen her through the screen in her YouTube and TikTok performance videos and Pococha live streams, this was the first time I saw her in person.

The performance started unexpectedly with "Matsuken Samba," a song that was popular on TikTok. I also heard the "Phantom of the Opera Medley" for the first time, and that was also excellent.

What left a particularly strong impression was Kana's original song, "Dance of the Red Dragon." It felt like listening to a TV drama theme song, and it was a wonderful piece that made the audience feel as if they were being drawn into the world imagined by the song.

And then, the "Galaxy Express 999" medley!!! I was so happy to hear the famous songs, including the overture that was also uploaded to YouTube, here as well! I was so happy that she performed it. I was moved early on and even teared up...

During the MC between songs, she introduced the song titles and talked about how she was happy to receive applause (as she usually plays classical music and doesn't get clapped along to), and how the audience for Electone performances is expanding.

And so, the fun 30-minute petit stage ended in the blink of an eye. Thank you to the organizer, Miyaji Music Koganei Center, and to Kana Koike for the performance—it was a wonderful event that "packed the charm of the Electone into a small space!"
