How People Change When They Are Convinced
In our daily lives, we encounter things that leave us wondering, "Why?" or "How come?"
Even if we understand it with our heads, our hearts may not be convinced.
At such times, people continue to feel a sense of unease.
"I want to be convinced, but I just can't."
I think everyone has had an experience like that, haven't they?
What I realized through an interaction with my son
Once, I was talking with my son during his rebellious phase.
At first, because he wasn't convinced, his words and attitude were defiant.
Even when I asked, "Why does it have to be that way?" all I got back were rebellious answers.
However, when I tried using an analogy, the situation changed.
The moment my son was able to imagine it by relating it to something familiar to him,
his expression softened, his tone of voice calmed down, and even his behavior changed.
At that moment, I felt firsthand what it means to be truly convinced.
Being convinced is the "moment it clicks"
Being convinced is not just about understanding an explanation.
Change is born in the moment it truly "clicks" in your heart.
Expressions change
Words change
Actions change
This change is very natural and something you never see when you force someone to agree.
The "point of conviction" differs from person to person
However, what allows someone to be convinced differs from person to person.
This is because everyone's background is different.
Things they have experienced
Events they have gone through
Values they have held dear
The accumulation of these things shapes a person's "point of conviction."
Summary
Through my interaction with my son, I learned the "power of conviction."
When people are convinced, they change naturally.
That is precisely why it is important to look for "words seen from the other person's background" when you want to convey something to them.
To do that, first get to know the other person.
What kind of experiences have they had, and what values do they hold dear?
By empathizing with that, I believe you can reach their heart and create a moment where things truly click for them.
