I would like to talk about Mount Fuji.
Mount Fuji, the great symbol of Japan, is situated on the border of Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefecture. It is the highest peak in Japan, standing as high as 3,776 meters. Mount Fuji is classified as a dormant stratovolcano and it erupted from 1707 to 1708.
This sacred mountain has long been the object of worship among most Japanese. For example, Fujiko, the religion that worships Mount Fuji became popular among people in the Edo era. People climbed Mount Fuji as a sign of faith.
Since Mount Fuji has been fascinating for its unparalleled beauty, it inspired many artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, who created many Ukiyoe works about Mount Fuji.
Mount Fuji was added to the World Heritage List as a Cultural Site in 2013.
