#228 'The Day She Got 100 in Both Japanese and Math, All for a Single Soft-Serve Ice Cream'

Today, my fourth-grade daughter's end-of-month test results came back.

We had made a promise a little while ago: if she got 100 in both Japanese and math, I would buy her a treat.

That had somehow changed to,
'I don't want a treat, I want to have soft-serve ice cream for the first time in a while.'
it had changed to that.

If she got 100 in both, we would go buy soft-serve ice cream.
I agreed to the promise.

Apparently, today was the day of that end-of-month test.

The 'I'm home' I heard from the entryway
sounded somehow brighter than usual.

But I wondered how the results turned out.
Deep down, my heart was pounding.

With a look that was a little shy,
but also somehow proud,
my daughter gently handed me the tests, still folded shut.

I peeked at them, and one was a 100.
I wondered about the other one... and in that moment.

The other one was also a 100.

Both Japanese and math, 100 in both.

'Amazing!' I exclaimed involuntarily,
and gave my daughter a big hug.

She had such a happy look on her face.
That face was just so incredibly cute.

Now is the time to praise her.
That feeling overflowed all at once,
and I hugged her again and again.

'You're really amazing.'
'You're a genius.'
'Let's go buy that soft-serve ice cream.'

When I said, 'We can go today if you want,'
she replied, 'I'm in such a great mood today, so I'll go on a regular day.'

Even though it wasn't today,
I'm already really looking forward to
the day we go to buy that soft-serve ice cream.

To think she could get 100 in both Japanese and math,
all for a single soft-serve ice cream.

She's just too cute.
Really, she's so cute.

Today is
a day to praise her, over and over again.

Giving a big squeeze,
and another big squeeze.

I'll remember this joy,
until the day we get soft-serve ice cream,
over and over again😊✨
