Why I Kept Choosing to Smile Amidst the Storm of the Busy Season
(*Today is a limited-access article😊✨)
The lunch peak. Before I knew it, there were over 100 customers.
The call bells wouldn't stop ringing, and orders were coming in non-stop.
Being called here and there, my legs are already aching like sticks.
Even so, when I think of the customers, I fly over to them happily.
Because when I'm called, I want to face them with a smile, saying, 'Yes! I'll be right there!😊✨'
There is a mountain of things to do.
Taking orders, serving food, guiding customers, and preparing for payments.
Refilling what's run out, dealing with sudden shortages...
I also respond to each customer's individual requests.
—Honestly, it's exhausting. There are moments when I just want to go home.
But.
When customers say, 'Wow, that looks delicious!' or 'We haven't been waiting long at all, thank you,'
and look me in the eye with a gentle expression,
my heart fills up in those moments, and I want to respond with a smile.
When I smile, the customers smile too.
Having experienced that magic many times, I choose to smile with conviction.
And perhaps you might be thinking this:
'Why are you able to keep smiling like that?'
The answer is,because every single customer looks adorable to me.
The confused look when they enter the shop, the way they look for a seat, the way they agonize over the menu...
When I approach those moments with the feeling of, 'Please don't worry, I'm here to support you!'
the customer's expression instantly changes to one of relief.
That moment is incredibly joyful and fun for me.
The busier it gets, the more everyone tends to get on edge.
Both customers and employees end up with furrowed brows.
That is exactly why I want to stay smiling.
Even if those around me aren't smiling, by being the one who smiles, it creates breathing room, and the smile becomes contagious.
It might sound like empty idealism.
But this is the truth I continue to experience every day on the front lines.
Whether it's busy or not.
A smile is both gratitude toward the customer and healing for myself.
No matter how busy it gets, I choose to smile.
It's for the customers, but actually, it's also to protect myself.
I'm sure you also encounter 'stormy, difficult moments' in your daily life.
When that happens, I hope you remember this.
A smile can be the magic that saves you😊✨
