Thoughts on Working Remotely

I recently conducted a training session in Fukuoka Prefecture. Because of this, I decided to play it safe and work remotely from home.

✅ Incubation period of the novel coronavirus

I went to Fukuoka Prefecture for training on December 17th and 18th. As shown in the figure below, the incubation period for the novel coronavirus is about 5 days. If I had been infected with the virus, symptoms would appear by December 22nd.

If I had gone to the office while infected with the novel coronavirus, the staff would have become close contacts, so I decided to work remotely from home until the 22nd. Since today is the 21st, I will be working remotely until tomorrow.

✅ Thoughts on working remotely

This time, I was able to work because I had decided to work remotely and had prepared for it. However, if you are suddenly infected with the novel coronavirus, you will be thrust into remote work without any preparation.I realized that in such a case, work might be delayed because you are not prepared to do it.

Also, the response differs depending on whether I am infected or a staff member is infected. If a staff member is infected, there are many problems, such as what the other staff members will do for work and whether they have computers or mobile phones to work with. Regarding mobile phones, I recently signed a corporate contract with Rakuten Mobile for two mobile phones.

As for computers, I have three laptops ready at the office. Since my office has four staff members, we will run out of both computers and mobile phones. It is unlikely that everyone will be infected, but it is possible that they will become close contacts. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare defines close contacts as follows.

■ What is a close contact?

"If there was contact within about 1 meter for 15 minutes or more" "Public health centers will investigate and determine those who had contact during the period when there is a possibility of transmission from the infected person (from 2 days before the onset of symptoms to the day of hospitalization, etc.)"

To avoid becoming a close contact, you must try to protect yourself by avoiding places where people gather as much as possible. I think this situation will continue for a while.

✅ Establishing a system capable of remote work is inevitable

What I wrote before is becoming a reality. I think we must have a system in place to work remotely at any time, rather than thinking that my company will be fine.
