[Press Release] Comprehensive EduTechnology Support for Mie Prefectural Subaru High School's DX High School Project! Implementing Triple-Integrated Support for ICT Infrastructure, Community-Linked Inquiry-Based Learning, and Human Resource Development

We have built a DX support case study with the school to promote educational reform in collaboration with the local community, themed around "students feeling their own growth for themselves."

Activity snapshots

EduTechnology Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yoshihiro Sakagami), which supports the use of ICT in educational settings under the philosophy of "Story your learning," has been commissioned by Mie Prefectural Subaru High School (Odai-cho, Taki-gun, Mie Prefecture) to support the enhancement of science and mathematics education aimed at developing human resources to support growth fields such as digital technology, as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "High School DX Acceleration Promotion Project (DX High School)."

Background and Purpose

Mie Prefectural Subaru High School is committed to fostering students' spirit of inquiry and developing future leaders through "Odai Inquiry," a community-co-creation inquiry-based learning program centered on Odai-cho. Having been selected for the DX High School project, the school aims to further deepen "Odai Inquiry" with a view to developing human resources who can support growth fields such as digital technology (DX human resources) by utilizing ICT. Through this project, we provided support aimed at not only enhancing the ICT environment but also ensuring the subsequent utilization and integration of ICT.

Details of Support

1. Development of an ICT environment suitable for "Odai Inquiry"

To support inquiry-based learning based on scientific evidence, we provided high-spec PCs and other ICT equipment, including action cameras and audio recording devices for use in fieldwork, as well as iPad Pro terminals that can be used while on the move.

2. Enhancement of science and mathematics education and support for teaching material development

As learning materials for the school-designated subject "Data Science," we co-developed introductory data science materials with statistics experts. These materials are based on basic statistics and are designed to be engaging and easy to handle even for students who are anxious about their academic performance or teachers who are not specialists in statistics.

3. Support for improving the supportive teaching skills of faculty and staff

We conducted various training sessions to contribute to improving the supportive teaching skills of faculty and staff, which are essential for deepening "Odai Inquiry."

・Educational Evaluation Training:
Practice of educational evaluation as feedback, based on theories of learning assessment and practical observation of learning in the classroom
・Coaching Workshop:
Acquisition of basic concepts of coaching and practical coaching skills to learn the basics of how to engage with students in inquiry-based learning
Design Thinking Training:
Learning the basic principles of design thinking and acquiring methods to find solutions to issues and problems

4. Development of feedback (evaluation) for students in "Odai Inquiry"

Following the educational evaluation training, which re-examined how evaluation should be conducted to support student learning, we created case studies through the development of rubrics for observing student learning in inquiry activities and providing appropriate guidance and advice to motivate students. We aimed to build a system for subject-based and inquiry-based learning where students themselves can advance their activities while feeling their own growth.

Training Materials (Partial)

In this way, we provided comprehensive support from both hardware and software perspectives as an environmental improvement to help students perceive regional issues more objectively and solve them proactively. By incorporating data science, the scope of inquiry activities expanded to be interdisciplinary across humanities and sciences, leading to high-quality data collection and analysis activities in student projects. Furthermore, by discussing and practicing evaluation and feedback to support each student's learning activities, teachers not only enriched "Odai Inquiry" but also gained opportunities to consider student engagement across subject-based learning.

Teacher's Comments

Mr. Keisuke Yamazaki, Mie Prefectural Subaru High School

"In our school's DX High School project, EduTechnology was involved in projects such as providing advice on the introduction of high-spec PCs suitable for 'Odai Inquiry,' developing original school teaching materials, and conducting training and support to improve the teaching skills of faculty and staff who guide students' learning activities. We were able to successfully complete the first year of the DX High School project, which aimed to help students feel their own growth. Thank you very much."

From the Representative

Yoshihiro Sakagami, Representative Director, EduTechnology Co., Ltd.

“For over 15 years, we have anticipated the era of ‘one device per student’ in educational settings, discussing and supporting new teaching styles and the future of education with teachers on the front lines. With this DX High School project selection as an opportunity, we have supported the deepening and promotion of ‘Odai Inquiry,’ where students at Mie Prefectural Subaru High School use the community they live in as a field, allowing them to feel their own growth. While leveraging our past expertise, we have engaged in trial and error, aligning with the teachers' vision and the students' needs, and I am grateful to have been involved in creating value that only ‘Odai Inquiry’ can provide.”

Future Outlook

Moving forward, EduTechnology will continue to support the implementation of ‘Odai Inquiry,’ a community-based problem-solving school-designated subject, by maximizing the use of the school environment, including the ICT infrastructure developed under the DX High School project, and the teachers' instructional systems. By expanding this model as a case study to schools nationwide, we will continue to strive toward improving the educational capabilities of local schools in Japan and addressing regional issues.
