Why I Continue to Work as an Online Tutor
There is a deeper meaning to why I work as an online tutor, beyond just the income. Below, I will share the background behind this.
1. Lessons learned from volunteering for pediatric cancer support
I volunteer as a learning support tutor at a non-profit organization that assists children with pediatric cancer or serious illnesses and their families.
I needed to improve my skills to provide 'individually optimized learning' for children who cannot attend school due to illness, and to support them in learning at their own pace.
Working as an online tutor plays a very significant role in honing my own teaching skills.
2. My son's developmental disabilities and learning support
I have a son with developmental disabilities.
Although he has a strong desire to learn, he faces many difficulties at school and at home, and requires special support to advance his studies.
The costs for psychiatric clinic visits and medication are also mounting, increasing the financial burden of supporting his education.
Working as an online tutor is crucial as a means to earn funds to support him while also improving my own learning support skills.
3. My daughter's education and the growth of our entire family
My daughter also attends cram schools and takes lessons, and I invest a lot of time and money to support her learning as well.
The majority of my income is spent on my children's education, and my life revolves around their 'learning'.
Watching them grow as they pursue their respective dreams is an irreplaceable joy for our family.
4. Supporting learning through online tutoring
My son is currently attending university, but because he failed some credits, his graduation might be delayed by two or three years.
In addition to this, my daughter's upcoming university enrollment is overlapping, and in a consultation with a financial planner (FP) regarding our future income and expenditure and life after retirement, I was advised that our household finances could potentially fall into a critical situation.
We may be forced to make decisions about cutting back on something or giving something up.
Even while carrying this financial anxiety, I feel that by continuing to work as an online tutor, I am playing an important role in supporting my family.
5. Supporting tutors as a learning support provider
Furthermore, as a 'learning support provider for children,' I would like to focus on supporting those who are working as online tutors.
Tutors are important figures who directly influence the future of their students.
Based on my own experience, I hope to share teaching methods and support skills with other tutors to help create a better teaching environment.
The job of an online tutor is not just a source of income for me, but a life's work to brighten the future of my students.
I intend to continue this work with all my might, as it allows me to keep learning myself while supporting the growth of my students.
