The "14th Moon" Mindset
I am Edase, a high school teacher.
I mainly post about
education, psychology, communication, self-improvement,
and daily realizations.
With high school entrance exams just around the corner
and the end of the fiscal year approaching,
I have been stuck with desk work lately.
When I grumbled, "I haven't been moving my body lately,"
a junior colleague
brought me a road bike,
saying, "Edase-san, how about this?"
Cycling has become a bit of a trend among the staff,
and they were talking about things like,
"I rode around the Miura Peninsula the other day."
As I was listening with envy,
they thoughtfully prepared it for me, saying,
"I'm not using this right now, so
why don't you try riding it, Edase-san?
You'll definitely get hooked!"I was so moved!!
I immediately took it for a test ride around the school.
Oh man... it feels great!!
My body was overjoyed.
I plan to go for a ride when I have time.
I'm grateful to my junior colleague.
I hope this article
can give energy to those who read it,
and serve as a catalyst
for action and new realizations.
Please stay with me until the end.
How well do you understand yourself
when you are in good or bad condition?
If you know your success and failure patterns in advance,
you can consciously repeat the success patterns,
and recover from failure patterns more quickly.
What I recommend is
having a large repertoire of "routines"
to recover from failure patterns.
For example, in my case,
even if I feel stressed,
I feel refreshed if I sleep for more than 7 hours.
If I cook something delicious, eat it,
have a drink, and sleep, I'm in a good mood.
Knowing exactly what to do
to get into a good mood,
and having the skill to get along well with yourself
is important.
Even when I talk to students,
their patterns vary.
Exercising,
chatting,
dancing with all your might,
listening to your favorite music,
drawing illustrations,
playing games,
being alone,
studying,
...
Each one has its own personality and is interesting.
I've recently felt that "writing notes"
is also good for conditioning.
I used to be into photography,
and every day, while wandering around town,
if there was a scene that moved my heart,
I would record it.
When I was a high school homeroom teacher,
I often took pictures of the daily scenery at school
and the expressions of the students.
Since I wanted to
take good photos, I thought,
I naturally started observing things more closely,
and it felt like my own sensitivity was being sharpened,
which was fun.
Now, the thing that replaces that
is "note".
What should I write about today?
Thinking that, I let my mood guide me,
typing sentences into my computer,
and while typing,
I find myself realizing things,
thinking, "Ah, I see."
For me, continuing this note
is a "healing" time in the middle of work.
And,
while listening to music on random today,
Yumi Matsutoya (Yuming)'s
song "14th Moon" started playing.
The frustration of not being able to read your feelings
That's why it's exciting
Once I confess my love, that's the end
At that moment, I see the end
Some things are better left unsaid
Don't say what comes after that
More than the full moon that wanes from the next night
I like the 14th moon the best
I love these lyrics.
It's a love song, but
songs about "love"
can usually be replaced with "life."
The theme is
the excitement just before the full moon.
To use an analogy,
it's like the feeling of Christmas Eve, isn't it? (laughs)
The exhilaration just before achieving a goal,
right before a dream comes true,
Or, to make it more relatable,
the start of a new job or project,
before opening a gift box,
just before leaving for a trip,
an entrance ceremony or the first day of school,
when people meet for the first time,
At times like that,
there is a premonition that something is about to begin.
It's a feeling of heart-swelling anticipation and new possibilities.
I've taken the liberty of
calling it the
"14th Moon" mindset.
I strongly hope that I can keep such a mindset in my heart,
and become someone who can be excited all the time.
If we could become a group like that,
how wonderful would that be,
I think.
Well then,
where should I go
on the road bike I borrowed from a junior colleague??
Thank you for reading until the end.
I would be happy if this
was of even the slightest help to you who read it.
